The controlled scrimmage may not happen. They may want to play 2 exhibition games at Viejas. The Aztec set up the controlled scrimmages because they had very early tough games scheduled. Having two exhibition games gives them an extra home game that they may need to offset the Petco Park game. Although their tournament this year is only two games away from home. Petco game gives them a 3rd neutral site game - same as last year. No need to offset the Petco game, it was to be played at USD. We didn't lose a Viejas date. Every year we play at USD, we need at offset it.

There is no contract any more between SDSU and USD . So there is the game on a neutral court this year at Petco money game for USD and even more for SDSU . Then Fisher can decide what he wants to do going forward . either only home games for SDSU ,or trade off or what ever he wants to offer USD . Or see what happens with the Petco game .
Also as reported, very highly rated #9 HS recruit Rabb PF looks as though he is going to play for CAL this fall . So very likely CAL vs SDSU in a semi game for the tournament in Vegas . Definitely a quality game. CAL also added a 3 star guard to to their recruiting class .

Would guess that could mean we could play CAL in the Vegas Tournament in the semis ,to make sure there is a CA team in the finals . This should be a very good tough game .

Every year we play at USD, we need at offset it. We alternate every year. Grant that the contract excited, I presume they will renew it.

would guess the semis will be WVU vs Richmond . Aztecs vs CAL . WVU should be the favorite , but West Coast team should have decent fan support during Thanksgiving .

kansas @ viajas - will be insane!
Beating a deon wright-less Utah @ Utah - gets us ranked
Beating the 5 star froshies early in the season helps in the AP
West Virginia.....a tough team - who knows
Actually the Petco Game looking to forward very much - super fun! what an outstanding out of the box idea!

Knowing fish Ucsd Csum St Katherine's Grossmont college Miramar college I/k This year the Sun Belt conference will fine schools for poor scheduling, I am not saying that's what we do, but have scheduled 1-2 NAIA teams a year. I'd like to see a few more home and homes with schools like SMU, Gonzaga, Big XII (Baylor, Texas, TCU) or even a Big East school. Would it be so bad to schedule BYU as well? (This assumes we continue playing PAC schools and renew the MWC v MVC.) collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/05/20/sun-belt-will-fine-member-schools-for-poor-scheduling/

Fowler/ Padres are paying the Aztecs a very decent amount to play the USD game - so definitely a "money game " . Believe the coaches appreciate the controlled scrimmage against a quality team that does not count in the score book , but great teachable game . Still get the other X game . Also many have learned (ask CSU ) that as many decent games in OOC really helps . There are 5 known OOC games away from Viejas: 2 in LV, Petco Park, Utah, and LBSU. If another away game happens, the Aztecs will need a second exhibition game to get the number of home games needed. Grand Canyon is a home and home series. Does that start at home? We know there are 2 home games as part of the tournament that happens in Las Vegas. One is Hawaii, I believe, and no clue about the other.

Believe Sam Houston State is the other "home game with Hawaii "as part of the LV tournament, played at Viejas, and part of Aztecs home season ticket holders. The Petco game with USD and two games in Las Vegas are considered "neutral court games " Thought Grand Canyon series started out at Viejas but not positive . For the last two years Aztecs have done a 'controlled scrimmage " with Stanford that Fisher liked but no fans are allowed to attend . So most likely the usual 1" X game" and then a couple more home games for OOC. San Marcos , Pt Loma , UCSD , St Kates , Christian .... or BW school ?

Knowing fish Ucsd Csum St Katherine's Grossmont college Miramar college I/k Playing a team like San Diego Christian is far preferable to playing a Div I game against a team that will probably have very few victories, like Ball State. Playing the latter is an SOS killer (and therefore RPI) and playing the former has no SOS effect.
