If he comes in ready to learn , and motivated, he could develop into a quality player . As noted would help if he can add some muscle . So hope to see him in both sessions of SS and the weight room . Key as noted be ready for the 2016-17 season , when we lose both SS/ AC and even MP if he is here for 2015-16 season . Also maybe WS ? A lot of guys to learn from . Would also guess Tim Shelton could help his development.

I've watched him play a couple dozen times the last couple years and have a much different view of his game then others on here. I've Been seeing a lot of talk about Jones' game and what everyone's expectations are and was pretty surprised. Usually when we get a new 4 star+ recruit everyone has these huge expectations of the kid and they don't live up... I have a feeling that in Jones' case the opposite will happen. People assuming he will redshirt or won't contribute until Junior year etc are going to be in for a real surprise. I think he'll end up playing next season. For all the negatives I see on here about why he won't play or contribute for a long time there are just as many positives to his game that make me think he will see the floor in 15-16. He has that High Major athleticism and length that we have become accustomed to seeing at Viejas but that is far from his only positive. He has outstanding court vision and is easily one of the best passing bigs on the west coast. He's a very tough guy to guard because he is a face up 4 who can drive his man to the hoop or hit the 12-15 footers with ease. Ask anyone who has seen him play a few times and the first thing they'll rave to you about is his midrange shooting. He has one of the prettiest strokes for a guy his size. About 3 weeks ago I'm at the Lawndale/Canyon game in the CIF playoffs and the first few minutes of the game he steals the ball on one end, Does a spin move on the baseline for a dunk and then splashes a 15 footer from the baseline the very next play. Like almost all Freshmen He will have things to improve on and will need to develop and continue to work to make an impact early on but he certainly has the talent and is a much much much better player than some of these "scouting reports" im reading on here that many of you are basing off of a 3 minute highlight or 1 of his games at Torrey Pines that you went to. Are you talking about the La Costa Canyon/Lawndale game? I was there and none of that happened... That was Metu who did that. Their first bucket of the game was a drive baseline dunk by Metu and that jumper you're talking about was Metu as well. Are you getting them confused?

No as I said in my post Lawndale vs Canyon, Not La Costa Canyon... Lawndale played Canyon high school in Anaheim on March 7th in the CIF playoffs and that's the game I was referencing. Perhaps you didn't read my post but I've seen Lawndale a couple dozen times the last couple years so I don't have Metu and Jones confused.

Taped and re watched the game they lost in the finals of the South Division . BJ is athletic but has a very slender frame for a C/PF (seems even thinner then MP ). So he will need to add to muscle to make a decent contribution down low . Next year Aztecs have SS/AC at the C/5 position. At forwards, it all depends on if WS and MP both come back , plus if DA stays , the only sure returnee is ZC . So that would be 4 forwards at the 4 and 3 positions . Very little PT . Also if they need another shooter MS could slide to the 3 position or TK . But if any of the 4 true forwards do not come back then there will be PT . Unless the coaches bring in a grad transfer. ZC red shirted last year , so it will be a decision for BJ and the coaches what would be better for BJ . BJ started out as a guy with great potential his first year in HS , but then seemed to coast until it was scholarship time this year . Plays under the shadow of Metu , on a team that is not very disciplined , so it all depends on what his attitude is and if he can start adding muscle to his frame. Believe we will know a lot more about the make up of the team by May . But it would seem better to have him start as some one that we know has a lot of upside but not counting on as starter or major contributor . He has 5 years to play 4 . You hit the nail on the head there Stan. Not the best Coaching and a very undisciplined team at Lawndale. Metu was the clear Alpha on that team and BJ was certainly in his shadow there.

Calm down there big guy, it just sounded an awful lot like the game I went to but Metu did all that. I read your post just fine

And the winner, in double overtime is.........aztecswinagain. The reading comprehension swat did it. It's evidently a rebuilding thread for likescoachfishay. Now can we move on to more important things?

Wouldn't really call that a "bicker fest".. I only took the bait and replied one time. Not worth my while to keep going

Like telling Coach Fish how to run the program, telling Coach Hut who to recruit, telling Malik where to play next year, telling Sterk where to go and how much MBB season tix are really worth, etc. Yeah, I guess you're right Dougy, the bickerfests are more fun.

As of today WS still has not decided if he will be coming back for the 15-16 season . If he does we could have 4 good forwards: MP, WS, ZC and DA(if he is back) and 2 centers . That means more then likely we could lose 4 guys who are going to get a lot of PT. SS/AC / WS and MP at the end of the 15-16 season. So BJ may not see much PT ,in 15-16 but will need to be ready when we need to reload for 2016-17. So same debate, play or red shirt for BJ , and at what position C or PF to get ready for 16-17 ? If WS or DA do not return and we do not get a grad transfer , then things change. and so does his PT.
Watched the championship game for So Cal . Their team is not disciplined . Metu is the better player down low. BJ has a very thin frame ,will need to add muscle , hope he gets on a good muscle building program, if not, would guess he will see that during Summer Practice , when he goes against Spencer/Chol . He does have good size and is athletic , so if he comes in and listens , works hard , could be a guy with a" high ceiling " . His frame is close to maybe MP or M. Thomas , skills similar to D . Stephens , but has 5 years to play 4 .use them wisely, also some times taller players need another year to develop .
Ben Kone (2016) seems more developed to play then BJ .
