We played there once---and lost. Yeah, wasn't he the coach of the opposing team? Indeed. And he beat up on Nevada today as well.

We played there once---and lost. On a call I've never seen called before and haven't seen since. The most blatant "here's the game for you" call I've ever seen. I can STILL see the look on my two buddies faces as they looked to me for an explanation to what "stemming" was. Over the years I've seen the Aztecs really get jobbed (Mizzou was a good one too), but that one was above and beyond.

CSU , believe without their coach who left for Florida got clobbered by Utah . In the Las Vegas Bowl . Losing the coach hurt and as we can see the difference between a good MW team and a good Utah ( P5 ) team . Last year USC also worked Fresno - top team in the MW. Will be very interesting to see how BSU(highest ranked G5 team) does in the Fiesta Bowl - At least MW gets some decent money although this could be another Pay Day for BSU and small portions for other MW schools . At least AFA and USU won their games ., again not sure about pay out for MW teams .

I had never even heard of "stemming" before the New Orleans Bowl, much less seen it called in a game. Haven't seen it since. The Missouri three blind mice screw-up was one of football's all-time worst non-calls, but for creativity you have to hand it to the zebras in the New Orleans Bowl. AzWm

TCU and Utah were very, very good when they entered the Big-12 and Pac-12 respectively. Even so, they were not immediately competitive. SDSU, at present, is not close to what Utah and TCU were when they left the MWC. But the main thing to consider is that our chances of moving up to the Big-12 (the only realistic possibility among the Power conferences) are very, very poor. If that's so, our only chance for greater success (meaning 10 or more wins per year and national ranking) depends on becoming more successful as a member of the MWC. The program has improved, but from an abysmally low level (i.e., the 1999-2009 era). We still can't beat P5 schools (except Wash. St. once). As to ranking, we are not only far from the Top-25, we trail at least two or three FCS schools in Sagarin's rankings. In short SDSU football is not terrible, but at best is only a bit better than mediocre. The question is, will we be able to match Boise State as one of the top FBS programs? (BSU's appearance in the Fiesta Bowl is a huge plus for the Broncos' program. Imagine what it would have done for SDSU had the Aztecs won the MWC championship!) To do that, there is going to have to be a lot smarter and more strategic thinking in the corner offices of the school's administration. And a lot more local fans attending games and contributing money. AzWm That seems to be a major point overlooked. Both TCU and UTAH, (and frankly, I have experienced both first hand), already had the community support and facilities when they left the MW. TCU has done some serious upgrades of their stadium since and Utah will be in the process of upgrading an already excellent stadium. And to compound the Aztec issues is an NFL team that, and here's the rub, is currently more relevant in San Diego than Aztec football will ever be. If they were to leave, San Diego will no longer be considered a football town, period. (Fox Sports opinionated on Sunday that the team to move to LA will be the Rams, but I digress). The bottom line is, until the situation with the Chargers is resolved one way or another, SDSU will sit on the sidelines. And now, back to reality. AFA,BSU,CSU,USU posted 10+ win seasons for 2014. Regardless of the level of competition, that is an excellent achievement. It will be interesting to see what MW programs will post 10+ win seasons in 2015.

There was a SLC Trib article somebody posted on here a couple years ago about how the Utes were struggling early on as PAC 12 members, with intensified competition week after week. But they seem to have risen to some form of respectability now. It takes time, but both TCU and Utah have adjusted. TCU's awful basketball program is now in the Top 25. (AP polls at least) My what a difference 2 years and $20 Million makes!

Regardless of the level of competition, that is an excellent achievement. It will be interesting to see what MW programs will post 10+ win seasons in 2015. It's been 37 years since SDSU won 10 games in a single season. Some may disagree, but I think that there is no reason for that. Well, no justifiable reason. For too much of those 37 years, the administration on the Mesa has just not given a tinker's dam how the football did. Until those at the top are committed to excellence, we will always be bouncing around from 6-8 wins a year. Meanwhile, as noted, other schools in our conference win 9, 10, or even 11 games. What do Air Force, Utah State, Colorado State, plus one or two other schools, have that SDSU does not have? The answer is this: leadership! AzWm

The most important leadership you need is a high quality QB on the field . A guy that can lead you to a quality win , against a quality team , in a close game , that can be the difference in winning the key games . Rocky said the same thing looking at the 2015 season , if our QB is the real deal we should get to the MW game or better ,if not we are average .
Bottom line is Recruiting and then Developing a QB . Is more important then a rah rah AD or President .

Actually, we are neither. We are really just a middle of the road team in a middle size conference. We have had some success, but not really any consistant play to get much attention. Now, next year could be different if we play very well against P5 competition (you know like an upset of Penn St. & Cal) with our new QB , Rodriguez, and a more determined team.
That could be the beginning of a new era.
