Deja Rahon Vu all over again. Even got the same threads… Difference is Rahon was somewhat valuable even if his shot wasnt falling What's weird is that all the talk on Shrigley out of HS was how versatile of a scorer he was, but then he came here and has only been a spot up three point shooter. I don't know if that's a result of coaching or his ability not translating to the next level, but it's surprising. His defense continues to be a liability, but hopefully that skill can be improved

Shrigley is according to Fisher our "best spot up shooter". I don't doubt that he can light it in practice. Allen Iverson said it best "practice". Shrigley does have excellent technique on his shot, but simply look at his FACE. He lacks confidence and the killer instinct. If you want to see what a confident shooter looks like, watch AQ,

Some of y'all must have missed Matt's laser dish to Spencer underneath when we went up 3.

I attended a lot of his HS games and he would put his back to people and back em down a foot or 2 and then pull up from 10-15 ft often. I think it had a lot to do with him being taller than his opponent so he could just shoot over them, and being the absolute focal point of the offense. Whenever they needed a bucket they just put it in his hands for an iso and let him back down his guy and pull up. He isnt taller than college players though, so he doesn't even bother trying that now. I don't think it was a lot like Kobe because he's never been able to do fade aways or anything. His jumper was filthy with people right on his hip though, I remember watching him in the CIF championship against Lincoln at Jenny Craig and he was going against the twin brothers (one went to UCLA and one to Oregon, the one who went to UCLA was supposed to play both BBall and FB, the other one solely FB) who were both 6'3 or so and he struggled a bit but made some crucial shots with them draped all over his hip EDIT: I think those twins' names were Tyree Robinson and Tyrell Robinson...fun game to watch (Shrigley's team won)

Yes he was a scorer at LCC not a great 3 point shooter , who had the height advantage over many players . Believe the coaches asked him to work on his 3 point shot . Not easy to be something you were not in HS . Similar to having guys play PG when they were not in HS.
His stats this year are not good 3 PT Shooting 23% and 2 PT FG is 16% . He is a step slow on D . Zabo is 40% at threes , as is Winston . Allen is 45% at 2 PT FG% . Pope can create shots in a variety of ways and deserves an opportunity ,if he is healthy.
The point is we do not get many opportunities on offense , so every one is important and magnified . We did shoot 53% on 2 pt shots . So why not do what we do well take it to the basket .
Coach Fisher on his radio show last night . We took too many threes , many with good looks , but most important did not make enough 5 for 25 20% is not good enough .
Other players deserve an opportunity . Pope , Zabo and Allen . Time to limit the threes , get the ball down low, move it with passing and more efficient scoring .

Not a knock on Shrigley because it's so for everyone -
HS<D1<Pro
That's obvious but it seems some fans don't get it.
It is so much easier to be a good shooter if you don't have to worry about playing defense too. That's clearly not the case at SDSU.
Hopefully once D becomes more 2nd nature to him he'll be more comfortable taking his shots.

He has occasionally shown some ability to take it to the rack. Would like to see more of that.

there are only so many minutes the reserves are going to get . Chol for Spencer , AQ at guard (experience, spark, can shoot 3's) ,
then to me Allen ,for D , rebounds and can definitely take it to the hoop , Zabo - true PG and is 40% at Threes , or Pope ,who can create a wide variety of shots ( threes , jump shot or take it to the hoop ) MS has had the opportunity - now others ( Pope, Zabo , Allen) deserve the same . If not they should have been red shirted . they have a much higher ceiling the MS , but are gong to need PT .

I think Shrigs were given the opportunity to score in other ways (rather than just setting up for the 3) his jump shot would come around. It is difficult to just wait for your wide open shot in the corner when you aren't really involved in the flow of the offense. I remember (I know I'm old) Jeff Mullins who was a guard for The Warriors. He was a deadly pull up jump shooter (Ie. when he got a bounce pass) but didn't shoot nearly as well when shooting from a static position.

No reason to play Shrigs 15-20 minutes and until he get his shots back. Id much rather watch Zabo, Pope and Allen. Shrings has too many missed shots turn overs and stupid fouls. Zabo attacks, Allen plays D and Malik is the next Durrant. Watch out KD. Shrigs I am not buying it.

On a positive note , IMO Zabo , Allen , Williams even Pope all showed positive features in their game last night . MS was maybe 1 for 5 or 6 with 4 fouls . The other guys have so much more upside going forward . If MS was not a favorite of Fisher he would be player number 12 in the rotation . Our strength is taking the ball to the basket , do not want a set shooter style offense

I tell you what...Fisher shouldn't recruit the north coastal areas for the team's 3pt specialist ever again...need some El Cajon, Lakeside, Santee 3pt specialist whose parent's are on foodstamps...that way we know this guy his hungry to change his and his family's circumstance. wow Yeah, I live in Santee in the Sky Ranch area. I'm gonna hafta take a stroll way down yonder to my mailbox and look for them there foodstamps.

At some point down the road we will need some shooters. It may be Polee, Pope or Shriggs but that's pretty much the list of 3 point shooters. Now is the time to blow out some of these weaker teams and let those guys shoot, shoot ,shoot so they can get into a rythem.

When Kell was recruited Fish described him as one of the best HS 3 point shooters in the land.

Kell's jumper is a huge disappointment so far though... I don't like the form at all either. Hopefully it'll start to work for him
