Let me say this, we won't be facing a team as talented as Arizona this season. Maybe in March. The closest thing to an Arizona is UNLV, but they are poorly coached and have lots of new faces. Still, we must put our best team on the court readying it for a deep NCAA's run

What is that Spencer shooting stroke? If I saw that as a recruiter what would I think? Worst shooting stroke I have ever seen.

Spencer did his job of neutralizing the AZ center but their center was 3 of 4 FT . Spencer 1 for 4 . So that could mean in similar style games either Spencer stays in , but we do not pass him the ball or we put in Pope or the offense /defense switch . We were down - need points not the close loss , or the staff finds a center that had similar problems at FT shooting to work with both big guys ( is that Shelton , Walton ,Thomas or .... ?). Confident some one will find FT% for Cheatham in HS to see if that is an option . We are going to play At Washington AT CINCY so it could happen . Also close games in MW .

For his club team he was a .566 FT shooter in 2013. Could not find any of his HS stats.

Sometimes players have great games. Sometimes players have good games. Sometimes players have average games. Sometimes players have poor games. Sometimes players have terrible games. Skylar did not have a good game. There is no reason to make any sweeping statements from it. Well said. Sent from my Admiral Mark 01 Telegraph machine via Sputnik with dial-up

Skylar is a great teammate and a prolific shot blocker on defense. Unfortunately, his offensive skills are limited, which is a liability for the Aztecs. First and foremost, Skylar has no excuse for not developing his offensive skills from Junior High School to College. This is partly Skylar's fault and the Coaches who have coached him from day one!
There is a young player, and you may have heard of him, by the name of Ivan Rabb who plays for Bishop O'Dowd HS. He is 6'10 like Skylar. He has mad offensive skills! I saw him play last year against Sacramento High School. His teammates actually froze him of out of the game (i.e. PG's and SF/PF's would not pass him the ball). At the end of the game, he had 30 points, 15 rebounds, 7 blocks, 5 assists and 3 steals. He could handle the ball; shoot a 15-17 foot face up jumper; good FT shooter; shoot the 3; and dunk with either hand. He is right hand dominant, but he used his left hand extensively on offense.
He did not get flustered when his teammates did not pass him the ball. When his teammates shot the ball and missed, he grabbed the rebounds. However, he has a good HS Coach. At the beginning of the 2nd half, his Coach benched the PG and SF that refused to pass him the ball. It is my understanding that he may be one of and/or top HS players in the Nation. And, guess where he wants to play College Ball? You guessed it, Arizona.
I stated the above for this. Skylar should be a lot further along in his development offensively and display an all-around game at this stage of his career. I am certain that the Director of Player Development, Tim Shelton, and other coaches have been working with Skylar. At some stage of a basketball player's career, he/she has to want "it!" Chol is way ahead of Spenser in terms of his "all-around game" offensively and defensively.
San Diego State lack of an inside/low post game is placing undue pressure on their outside game. Generally, basketball game plan is inside out, not outside in. Finally, Skylar should be a better rebounder. So, if I can not be a force on offense, I will be on defense and the boards! I am surprised that Skylar did not learn this from Josh Davis. If I was coaching Skylar, I would have corrected his shooting mechanics during his Freshman year. I would have forced him to shoot the ball from 10-12 feet away from the basket. I would have forced him to develop a running left hand hook shot.
Finally, I would have shown him video of Brian Carlwell and told him that he can shoot a 3 point shot once in a blue moon! (LOL). Has anyone suggested to Skylar to attend a BIG MAN CAMP! As the old cliche' goes, "You can take a horse to the trough, but you cannot make 'em drink!"

Spencer is a great defensive player . But He also needs to be realistic , the team needs to find some one that can assist him at FT's or realize he will be on the bench during crunch time ( Bonus for FT 's) or the team will need to play a 4 man offense when he is in , pass him the ball and the other team is going to foul him . He was not the only Aztec at 50% or lower , ( Chol,Zabo, JJ, Shepard) . We could have similar games coming up Washington , CINCY , MW games , the coaches are going to need to do the defense /offense switch or have guys in that can handle the ball and make FT's . the Arizona center was 3 of 4 ,for the game .Spencer 1 of 4 . The Arizona stars Jefferson was only 4 of 14 FG%(29%) but 9 of 10 FT (90%). Jeffereson 5 of 13 but 4 of 5(80 FT%). The better players step up in a variety of ways at crunch time . So if Skylar wants to be in the game or involved in the offense he needs to work on that part of his game ( he is 38% FT currently), if not then maybe Pope . Chol is 47%FT Would hope that Zylan is also working on his FT 's if he wants to be involved during crunch time , something he maybe able to do now, as 57% is not stellar. Do not think Fisher needs to single players out but change the idea that as long as we make more FT then they shoot we are ok . That may not happen against quality teams and it can cost the team a W . The whole team only made 13 of 24 FT 54% , Arizona 83%.Playing time drops if you do not play D . Same thing maybe should be looked at for FT ? Who wants to earn some PT in crunch time.
