No, this isn't a Ford Motor Company ad, though "Ford's Out Front!" was their slogan in 1946. This is the story of how FoMoCo got it's act together and became profitable once more. Keep in mind, Ford did not accept federal money (nor did the foreign, non-union affiliated car plants outside Detroit). So how are GM and Chrysler doing? Well, GM sucks. The bailout basically did nothing accept throw a life line to the UAW. Chrysler, a dead man walking for decades, is now an Italian company thanks to the fact that the Feds basically paid Fiat a bundle to take over the ailing auto maker. Have we learned anything form all this? www.nytimes.com/2014/06/28/opinion/joe-nocera-fords-turnaround-carries-lessons-for-gm.html?ref=opinion&_r=0AzWm

Wow! And from NYT! Barra has a huge problem and should she turn GM around it would really be impressive. Coming from within is a problem but seeming to know where GM has gone wrong in the past and why is a ray of hope. In addition to the life line to the union, I think an equal part of the bailout problem was screwing the bondholders as part of the process. That union problem may be the thing that takes GM done for good no matter how well Barra performs. He testimony in front of Congress tells me she still has a long ways to go in coming to grips with the deep seated problems at GM.

Barack Obama (or, perhaps to more fair, the Obama administration) took the part of their supporters, organized labor. To hell with the bondholders, many of whom were decidedly not wealthy individuals. This shamefully unfair treatment is all too typical of the Left. We will help our guys and the rest can pound sand. Strange how much this reminds me of the Sunnis and the Shia in Iraq. al-Maliki screwed the Sunnis as soon as we left Iraq, and is now faced with the possible dismemberment of his country as a result. (Not to mention the murder of thousands of his co-religionists.)
The sad part is that the GM/Chrysler bailout, in the long run, will prove to have been a lousy deal for everyone. Bankruptcy was inevitable for both companies. The Feds could have helped ease them through that process without the unfair and probably illegal screwing of the bond holders. But the Dems, more and more as time goes by, see politics as a zero sum game. One of us will win, and other will perish, and by god there is no way we will end up the latter.
Ford and the Japanese and European car companies that did not take federal bailout money demonstrate that the one-sided Obama bailout was not the only way to go. But the Dems found the chance to reward their friends and punish their enemies irresistible. Hey, it's the Chicago way. We are living in a land ruled by thugs. And we have the gall to criticize Putin!

Didn't read past the first half of the first sentence. Aren't you a teacher? Learn to spell our President's name correctly if you want an extended post to be taken seriously. You're like the Sheppard/Ritchie/Fischer guys at this point.

You're like the Sheppard/Ritchie/Fischer guys at this point. One extra r and you feel justified in not continuing. Very intellectual of you. Of course, had I spelled the name correctly, I am sure you would have read everything, considered the contents objectively, and finally would have responded in a calm, well-reasoned manner devoid of any cheap shots or name calling. Maybe next time. AzWm
