I've always had a hard on for athletic wing players with swag...and dream of the team having a starting 5 with all of them over 6'7. I'm probably the only one who still loves and consider Evan Burns the most exciting player we've had.
This is my all wet SDSU dream team
G- Winston Shepard G- Evan Burns F- Kawhi Leonard F- Billy White F- Malcolm Thomas
Bench G- Jamaal Franklin G- Mohamed Abukar F- Marcus Slaughter F- Jerome Habel C- Skylar Spencer

Kim Goetz (1978 & 79) THE LONG RANGER was an amazing shooter who in the 3-point era would have been off the charts. could actually make his FT hit 44 vs a very good Utah team (pre-3 point era) Went to College of Southern Idaho (Boyd Grant was his JC coach).
Came to San Diego State due in-part to his father-in-law being the VP for External Affairs
Aztec Hall of Fame inductee in 2006 Special Ed teacher at San Pasqual HS, Escondido
sadly died in 2008

Chase Tapley. He may not have been the best (although he was VERY good), but I loved his attitude and his work ethic - and the effort he put out on the court. But, let's face it - the Aztecs have had a lot of great players over the years - I'd take an all time Aztec team up against anyone in college basketball. We just didn't have enough of these guys on the team at the same time to make any significant noise come March until recently. Imagine this lineup (in their primes)... Chase Tapley Jamaal Franklin Kawhi Leonard Michael Cage Brian Carlwell Billy White D.J. Gay Xavier Thames Josh Davis Brandon Heath Marcus Slaughter Richie Williams Randy Holcomb ...that's one hell of a team! You've got to add Tony Gwynn at the point dishing out the assists.

Bench: DJ Gay Richie Williams Brandon Heath Jamaal Franklin Randy Holcomb Billy White Mohamed Abukar Marcus Slaughter

If you have Tony Gwynn Dishing out assists we need Carl Weathers as the Aztec Warrior mascot. Nothing would strike more fear in the opponents eyes than Carl Weathers blowing the conch.

Lorrenzo Wade for me. Sucks that he never got to the NCAA tourney as an aztec.

Thats cool these guys are still playing. I had no idea Green and Amaroso were still playing. Even Mehdi is still out there. I was always big on Manker, a 7 footer who could shoot 3's i never thought he was utilized enough. Billy White i thought was a shoe in for the NBA watching him his freshman year, but never really progressed to that next dominating level.

You are correct that Manker was fully capable of shooting threes, only problem was he was not very capable of making threes. At least not as often as I would have liked. He went on quite a few prolonged slumps if I recall correctly. He was a talented player but for a 7-footer, had no inside game whatsoever, which really hurt the team I thought.

Without a doubt it was Chris McMurray !!!! Drafted by the Cleveland Cavs in 1973. He was 6'5" or 6'6", most fluid athletic guy I ever saw who could shoot the longest 3's of any Aztec I ever saw. Intimidating too with that afro style hair of the times. I was lucky enough to play a pickup game with him at Peterson gym, clearly out of my class, and I'll never forget on a fast break I was standing all alone at the wing with the ball, he looked at me and yelled "shoot" and I swished a 20 footer. Highlight of my youth. Here's a link to a U-T article about the firing of Tim Vezie as the Aztec head coach and mentions Chris McMurray being kicked off the team in 1972. There's also an article on The Tark about his troubles at UNLV . news.google.com/newspapers?nid=266&dat=19790301&id=cfQrAAAAIBAJ&sjid=Am0FAAAAIBAJ&pg=2619,533928 Sent from my A200 using proboards

I don't know, but I feel like X is making a real case for himself. I've been watching the Aztecs since the days of Goetz and later Michael Cage. There are lots of great players, but Thames is certainly among the best in the clutch. Like the announcers said tonight, the guy has ice water running in his veins.

Xman for sure. Guy had the single best season I've seen in my Aztec days. Guy could create his own shot, distribute, and the best on court demeanor I've witnessed. He carried the team in his senior season and if you put him on the sweet 16 team with Kawai and company I think we may have hung a national championship banner at Viejas.
