I've actually been wondering that for a while. It would be good for the community imo.
And before anybody asks, I'm a Houston Cougar...not the Mormon kind.

We can't. They aren't a scholarship school.

We can't. They aren't a scholarship school. Ohhh ok. I didn't know they didn't give out athletic schollies. I just thought they had to be at least FCS but it makes sense from a competitive standpoint.

Cougar King- H. so what is your take, and what are they saying in Houston about this BE , situation. We would like to form a Western Division for ALL Sports of the BE- and have U of H , with SDSU.

Our administration has been hush-hush about the wholething. They haven't expressed any loyalty to the nBE but they haven't decided to leave either. From what I heard, we want a special deal from the MWC similar to Boise but with a few unique perks basically the UH equivalent to Boise being able to wear all-blue on blue turf. So I think if we don't get most or all of our demands granted and if BYU doesn't go in, then we'll stay in the nBE.

what about forming a South Western Division of the BE for all sports, since the magnificent 7 will be leaving soon. Wouldn't you prefer coming out to CA. Charge the 7 -Millions for the name and as other posters have said be part of the Coast 2 Coast Conference.

I've actually been wondering that for a while. It would be good for the community imo. Ha. Actually, when Harbaugh was the coach at USD, every time he went on the radio, he challenged SDSU to schedule a game with USD. He also boldly predicted that his USD team would beat SDSU. It was kind of funny, but at the time, maybe true. Who knows. Harbaugh had zero respect for either Tom Craft or Chuck Long. This was the time when we were going 2-10 vs. Harbaugh's 11-1. And when our AD finally pulled the trigger on Craft, Harbaugh again took to the airwaves and lobbied for the job. Sadly, the AD & President decided to hire an expensive headhunter to find the next coach. They searched high and low and nationwide. They settled on Chuck Long, possibly the worst head coach in the long annals of SDSU football. Couldn't possibly hire a guy who was right under their nose. Good thing we dodged that bullet.

Much like Brady Hoke, had we gotten Harbaugh he would have only been here a couple of seasons but we wouldn't have had to deal with the wasted Chuck Long era.

The headhunter recommended Jimbo Fisher, not Chuck Long. Our idiot AD chose to ignore the headhunter he paid to find him a coach. Even our 2-10 team would have pounded Harbaugh's USD teams.

Exactly right on both. And maybe if Jimbo Harbaugh would have hailed a cab here and there we would have hired him, but after the last coach we had, it was squeaky clean or nothing.

If Harbaugh had not just gotten a DUI no doubt he would have been our head coach.

If Harbaugh had not just gotten a DUI no doubt he would have been our head coach. Maybe true. I was going to mention that. However, I still don't think Weber/Schemmel would've hired him. They wanted to go after a nationally known big name. Harbaugh was just a former NFL QB who had been head coach for a couple years at the little D3 school down the street. Those two guys clearly had no idea how to evaluate coaching talent. Wouldn't know a good coach if he slapped em in the face. The reason Hoke got hired was because Marshall Faulk headed the search committee.

I wanted a D1 coach with experience. It made no sense at all to hire a head coach like Chuck Long with no head coaching on his resume.
CougarKing. I am not sure if we can't play USD because of some rule but it would be a mismatch. USD could not beat us in the best of Torero times and the worst of Aztec times. There is no reason to play them unless they jump up a division and have scholarships.

We could play them but since they're a non scholly school it wouldn't count as a real game, so what would be the point?

What might be fun though is a little friendly "scrimmage" in the spring. It is against NCAA rules right now to scrimmage against another school/team....but there are some coaches trying to get that changed - probably to sell tickets and put the games on TV and make more $$$$ - but hey college football isn’t about money, right? ?

The DUI was a problem for Harbaugh, as I recall. So was his habit of starting every interview with, "First of all I'd like to thank Jesus Christ..." whenever someone pointed a microphone at him. That made SDSU people squirm a little.
For whatever reason he's toned that down with the 49ers.
