The players played hard. The only let up was after the fumble in the 4th, but the defense then got it back together. Field position killed us -- kudos to BYU for some great special teams play. We're on the right track with power/smash mouth offense and defense. The typical, Soft San Diego Style Football (Pro and College) will NEVER get us to the big leagues. We need more tough smash mouth style football and Rocky is the guy to bring it. BTW, can anyone really say that Norv was better than Marty? Really?

I agree completely about the smash mouth approach to offense. However, you need to do a few innovative things at times too and Ludwig just didn't do that. That might be on Rocky. He could have told Ludwig to keep things simple for Dinwell. We'll see the answer to that next season. As to ST play, BYU's was good but we sure made it easy for them by not putting a guy back to fair catch their pooch kicks on our side of the field. Just one more lousy performance by Kevin M.

I think the 0-2 bowl record is a combination of bad officiating on key plays and poor offensive coaching.
Officiating: The turning point last night was the horrible wrong call for (not) blocking below the waist on the Aztecs INT for a TD. With the score 10-0 there would have been no way BYU would have come back considering their worthless offense. And in the New Orleans bowl, a homer ref pulled a "stemming" (sp.?) call out of his ass to steal victory away from the Aztecs on the last play of the game. I had never heard that penalty called before that game and have not heard it called since.
Offensive coaching: Bowl games are a great opportunity for offensive coordinators to use the extra practices to prepare for one team and open up their playbooks and put in some new plays for the offense. The last two bowl games, our offense has looked very vanilla. Even more conservative than during the regular season. It would have been nice to see an end around, or a trick play - anything to change it up to try and temporarily neutralize Van Noy.

It occurred to me that given his time as a HC and his record.... Does he even care if he wins? Bc his game plans speak to a different tune The D played great (Rocky's job). The O was crap. (Rocky isn;t involved with them at all). His JOB is the head coach. Not just defensive coordinator. The buck stops with him.

It looked to me like Dingwell's arm was going forward on the "fumble" recovered by BYU in our end zone. Regardless . . .
I decided after the loss at BYU two years ago that I was going to stop using bad officiating as an excuse for bad SDSU losses. And in this case, but for the fact our idiot ST coach refused to put anybody back to fair catch BYU pooch kicks, we wouldn't have been backed up against our end zone to start two consecutive drives, including that one.

That one was bad field position due to a King Holder INT.

Rocky seems willing to gamble on defense, but on offense is plain vanilla. Sure he goes for it on 4th down a bit more often than average, but that hardly makes him aggressive. Too conservative on offense.

It was close, but I agreed with the call on the field (regarding Dingwells arm).
