As bad as Hawaii looked all around, they had a nice interior run defense going for most of the game. Definitely stuffed us more up the gut than any other teams at home have this year.
I expect us to get back to running for 200+ on the ground against CSU.

Young isn't even getting most of the snaps with a fullback anymore

I know I'm always negative, but there were some drops and bad throws and Katz doesn't make a lot of deep throws to be at Lindley like completion percentage, there were come pass protection breakdowns against a jv team. The offense needs to get a little bit more efficient to deal with games when the defense plays a team with any talent You ARE negative, certainly about Katz, since you ignore the positive. I'll name a couple things you omitted. 1. Katz doesn't throw long often, that's true, but for some reason Lockett really isn't part of the offense this year yet Katz found Butler on a long throw into the end zone on a perfectly thrown ball. 2. Katz is as good a scrambling QB as we've ever had. His ability to make people miss in the secondary makes him basically a second running back. 3. We actually put a bit of a pass rush on last night. Nothing spectacular but a huge improvement over its nonexistence in the prior two games. Now, in the interests of objectivity, I'll point out some problems. Special teams were terrible . . . again. After McGarry admitted two weeks ago his guys played poorly, last week he said they've generally played well overall and thereby negated his prior confession. He's doing a horrifically bad job and if he isn't fired, folks are going to hear a lot of complaining from me. Let me count the ways. Last night, McMorrow did a much better job tackling on KOs than he did kicking them. When he put some air under the ball, it didn't go very far. When he kicked it to the edge of the end zone, it was a line drive. That's not going to cut it. He also shanked a punt 21 yards. KO returns were also nothing special and but for the aforementioned two nice plays by McMorrow as the safety on KO returns, Hawaii would have repeated what occurred with SJSU, meaning one taken to the house and another returned deep into out territory. One positive was Marden. He made all his kicks and who would have thought going into the season that a walk-on soccer player would end up being our best PK? I could add a couple things but we won and it's a beautiful morning so I'll stop here.

Yes, but too small to be an every down back. He's Atiyyah Henderson without the fumbles.

THe passing game was off, he made some bad throws had some bad drops. He can pass efficiently and run - they aren't mutually exclusive
McGarry might be the worst coach in the history of football, but it isn't like our special teams were very special and then he took over this year and they stopped being good - they have been a problem for years. I'd say even worse than the Kickoffs were the punts, some of them went 35 yards and a line drive. Special teams have to be fixed and it's apparent that Rocky is pointing the finger and McGarry is going to be the fall guy - hiring a guy from non scholly D1aa just because he hung around practices likely wasn't a good idea in the first place, so whatever

but McGarry didn't give a kid a scholarship who apparently can't kick or punt

This was a game where mistakes that would normally be huge go largely unnoticed. There should be a disclaimer next to San Diego State in the box score saying " this team is not as good as the score indicates).

That was probably the smallest Hawaii team I've ever seen come play here at the Q. Folks complain about our former coaches, but whether you liked Craft or Long at least they didn't leave the cupboard as bare as it appears McMackin has left that team for Chow. That's not a finese team built for speed either. We had them beat on both size and speed. Glad to see our bench players get some quality playing time in the 4th qtr.

I had a great time last night. Aztecs played one hell of a game and the sky show delivered as always. Couldn't ask for a better birthday.

I thought Miles was out there for a quick minute when Sedberry was flying around the field on special teams. Is he really listed as a DB?
