Just curious. If SDSU ends up top 10 and best in the west (which we will be if we are top 10), then why a #3 seed? Why not a #2? Are you just being conservative? P.S. I for one welcome you onto our board. I appreciate posters who want to genuinely engage in a respectful way. I like the question. No I love the question. I'm playing it safe with SDSU's #3 seed. In theory a team on the back end of the top 10 in the AP/Coaches Poll (for simplicity sake) at the end of the year would most likely be a #3 seed. They would be a bubble #2 seed! Have a great day my aztec friend. Baylor, Kansas and Missouri last year from the Big 12 entering March Madness (#2, #2, #3 seed). The West this year has 4 legit teams that can make a very serious run to the ATL. Four teams in the top 15 at seasons end? It is a distinct possibility in my humble opinion. A 5th team unlikely but love their point guard addition by transfer from X.

I get that. But, I'm talking about Stephens in crunch time. Getting to the line needing to sink 2. I love his intensity on D and the boaards, but I won't feel good when this happens. First, let's see how he shoots this year, if he even hits low 60s it's not a problem at all. If it's as bad or worse than last year, then he has to sit the last few minutes. If kid plays D at the level I think he could, he's a perfect fit for the team; and, with most guys not named Jamaal or Chase, there is going to be a healthy rotation anyway. Agreed. That's why I keep saying I hope he improves his foul shooting.

I miss the Bird Flu forum Considering there are like two dozen subforums here, if Joe ever returns, you can bet the BF forum will return with him. BTW, I'm amazed at what legs this thread has. Just more evidence that fall camp can't get here soon enough.

Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to provide this OP with the requested info.! It is respected and appreciated! As UConn hoops sits in basketball purgatory it is refreshing to exchange ideas with such a uniquely intelligent group of Aztec fans. It is my hope some of us will meet down at the ATL. The team should have a goal. Baylor last year had a practice gym with the Final Four logo on it. SDSU needs to shoot for the #1 seed in the West. That has to be a team goal regardless of whether they obtain it! The Route to the ATL for SDSU is as Follows: 1) HP Pavilion/San Jose 2) Staples Center (Regional Finals) 3) The ATL

His game at the end of last year was incredibly better than his game at the beginning of the year. I (and many others including Fisher) expect him to improve as much this year over last as Franklin 2011 to 2012. Stephens has a free throw coach who is also his main individual coach. That coach is the same one who improved Malcolm Thomas' free throws. I expect Stephens to be a pleasant surprise this year. The difference between shooting 60% and what he did was only 9 points the entire year. His lack of passing skills cost many more points. In 600+ minutes he had 11 assists. In 700+ minutes Shelton had 50 assists.

I knew he was no Malcolm Thomas, or Billy White when it comes to dishing the rock. But, not that bad. Thanks for the info!

A quick story for all the superstars here in Aztec land: The date was February 10, 2011. On February 9, 2011 a St. John's student arrived at my NYC apartment with a ticket in hand for UConn vs. St John's at the worlds most famous arena Madison Square Garden. I purchased this ticket from Steven who could not attend the game because of other obligations. Every year St. John's plays UConn at the Garden I purchase a ticket from a St. John's student and sit in the Red Storm student section right behind the basket. I have done this for years. Why? I love being the only fan of the opposition in the other teams student section. It gives me the chance to feel the pulse of another fan base. Here is the box score of the game: scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=310412599Here is a write up (no need to read it just talks about the blow out): www.nytimes.com/2011/02/11/sports/ncaabasketball/11stjohns.html"Although the Huskies (18-5, 6-5) brought a strong contingent from Storrs, Conn., the fans witnessed UConn’s third loss in its last four games and a pedestrian 15-point performance from Kemba Walker. Indeed, the night belonged to the St. John’s fans, who taunted the visitors with chants of “Over-rated!” It is worth noting Mr. Polee II started for SJU in this game. He played 17 minutes and had a very nice defensive presence against the soon to be National Champions. Polee also netted a sweet 12 pts in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament against the ZAGS the same year. The moral of the story is Polee II will be a very very nice baller for SDSU. A huge addition with experience that should be respected. Polee and the Johnnies gave UConn an azz whoopen of a life time and UConn later cut down the nets. I left the arena dazen in shock like being hit with an ALI jab! SDSU will also get hit this upcoming year and at that time a true leader will emerge! The season is a marathon and inner fortitude will persevere when your back is against the wall. That is also when the amazing and loyal fan base of SDSU will be there! Enjoy the anticipation like ketchup from a bottle of Heinz ready to go on a juicy medium rare burger! The season will be here soon and SDSU fans will be in all their glory!!!!! Best of health to all... Best Always, Mark

In 700+ minutes Shelton had 50 assists. it's not exactly directly comparable. Shelton had the ball more and offense was run through him - Timmy would get the ball early in the shot clock with the express idea of him passing, Stephens would get the ball in transition, off a pass or he'd get a putback. Stephens didn't often get the ball in those positions to run offense and when he was in the block he didn't often get doubles. Stephens has a lot of upside, could be a major defensive piece and with his D and his athleticism and the athleticism of the rest of the team, we should be able to lock down on D in the half court and run out of that for easy baskets

Worse than that for me. I took the bait early on and now feel the need to take a shower.
