FRom Rivals. it shows we are more active than any other shool in offers out and only trail Boise in commitments. Wonder if UNM would take Rocky back now?
SCHOOL OFFERS COMMITS AFA 98 4 Boise 84 9 CSU 87 5 Fresno 41 1 Nevada 57 1 SDSU 131 7 UNLV 42 1 UNM 63 0 Wyoming 67 3
Surprised at CSU number of commits at this stage, they are doing a good job.

CSU was down in the Imperial Valley last week looking at 2 kids, one from Brawley and one from Imperial. The Aztecs have been down to check on both as well.

If you cast a wide enough net you are bound to get a lot of mackerel and hope for a nice yellow tail once in a while.

We have more offers out because we have been going after guys who end up being heavily recruited and considered "elite" after we offer and they get recognized. Examples include Scott Pagano (who is down to LSU, Florida, Alabama, and Clemson and has 50 offers), Tahaan Goodman (likely USC with 25 offers), Chris Hawkins (USC verbal with 27 offers), Nico Fallah (USC commit with 20 offers), and Sebastian Larue (USC verbal with 23 offers).
We were the first (or very near the first) to offer each of those guys and then they got "discovered" and blew up thereby diminishing the probability of them signing with us. It is a sign that we are going after the right guys.
If you look at CSU's recruits that have verballed many of them had zero to very few offers. Either schools passed on them for a reason or they are undiscovered diamonds in the rough. I wouldn't worry about them as we won't be playing them anymore and without games in socal it's going to be more difficult for them to recruit the areas we recruit.

Sure they are reaching up, you don't get there by not reaching. To put out that many offers, you need networks, you need high school coaches working with you, you need a plan, you need a process to evaluate that many guys and you need exposure. Let's face it Fisher is Rocky's best recruiter. The basketball team's success has put the name on the street. Opens doors for you. Moving to the Big East is another card to play when going into a recruit's home. I'm glad that this staff is working and looking for players here, OC, California, LV, Arizona. They are building off what Brady did and Rocky's prior success at UNM. Personally I would like to see more 3 stars than 2 stars this year and someday the 2 stars are for an unpolished gem. I just think that this is good for us now and down the road.

Namely Antonio Rosales and Dakota Turner

Namely Antonio Rosales and Dakota Turner I wouldn't hold your breath. I'm virtually positive not one of our recruit's rankings were upgraded after being assigned by Rivals last year. They're not spending any of their time re-evaluating little ol' SDSU's commits. I'm sure you could find dozens of posts from last summer guaranteeing that Arthur Flores would be upgraded to 3 stars & how did that work out?

They added another west coast analyst so, in theory, things should be different this year. I think Begg is the most likely guy to be bumped up mainly due to the team he plays for.

I agree that a school high school's football prestige is taken into account. Bigger school, better competition, better rating.

Can't argue with this but ESPN and Scout will probably upgrade them. ESPN hasn't even ranked most of them yet but they think highly of Stamps and Morris so thats a good start.

Can't get excited about Rivals when we're talking recruiting FB......except the local guys. The guys that do the ratings are lazy, don't keep up with news/players. These are the same idiots that DOWNGRADED, from 3 to 2 stars Flores, Jackson, Judge, Kazee and Kendricks. If they can'r figure out that Dakota Turner is at least a 3 -star right now then I'm not holding out hope on them coming to their senses later.

They went from unranked to 2 star. They have a good argument to be 3 stars, but they were never downgraded . Matt Morin, however, was downgraded from a 4 star to 3 star due to poor camp performances. I have been a Rivals subscriber for almost 5 years and I find the coverage to be great. The national analysts can only do so much, so the regional/team sites pick up the slack. Augustine and Ruben have been doing a good job as far as SDSU is concerned. Other regional or team sites are great as well as Rivals High. You need to look past the front page. Obviously it is much easier to rate a player if they have been in camps and you see how they play against fellow D-1 prospects. Sure a guy looks great playing against the guy you sat next to in 11th grade Algebra, but you really get a feel for a players potential if they are in a camp setting. A lot of guys have great game film but it is all relative to the competition. 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns in Fargo, ND is very different from doing in the the LA City Section.

Since the OG Rivals guys split off and formed 247, Rivals has only had one regional analyst in the west, that's why other than the upper crust guys who go to the elite camps, everybody was underrated, not just SDSU's guys.

I never said that they had anything to do with the ranking. I was simply referring to the coverage of regional sites. They usually do a good job of reaching out and covering mid to lower tier prospects.

Bob Davie: The Savior of New Mexico Football. What an absolute clusterf*** that hire was. Not ny could he not win at Notre Dame back when they were still a true super power but he managed to be the ony coach in their storied history to land them on probation. But Rocky Long is the devil and they love football...
