The brief that Sommer just put up on the Scout mb, he says his top "two" are SDSU and Oregon. I quoted two, because he likes Ore, but doesn't hold and offer from them. Sommer also mentioned that he will be visiting SDSU on an official two weekends from now and that he has family in SD. Hope Horton seals the deal! He is too tall for Oregon they prefer them 5'4

The Dukie Rivals article started with "Duke managed to reel in four-star Nevada running back Shaquille Powell in the last recruiting cycle. Who says lightning doesn't strike twice?" So, is he a *** or a ****. Do not care either way, but like the comments that he may be the 'best' back in NV this year, has solid grades, very solid So & Jr numbers...this is what the BE may lead to going forward. Welcome Donnell as your education on the Mesa is going to provide you with good value when you graduate... I really thought SDSU had a good chance last year at landing Powell. Was kinda surprised when Duke did, but I always like to see an underdog get a player of his caliber. SDSU already has one of Nevada's best RBs from a couple years ago (Brandon Wright), and it would be excellent to land a speedster all-purpose RB in Pumphrey

Thanks, Tom. I don't know how many can view it if they aren't a subscriber, but here's an article lifted from their Duke version: sandiegostate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1380036It says the kid expressed reservations about going that far from home. I like it because it confirms Duke's interest and anybody receiving that kind of interest from Duke is certain to qualify at SDSU. The answer is zero, as in zero persons can read this article is they are not subscribers. AzWm Well, if I read your post correctly and you're pissed about that, don't be upset with me. I summarized the one thing I think is most important about the article. Yeah the kid's grades are fine but in this day and age with rampant grade creep, that doesn't mean kids can necessarily obtain the requisite SAT or ACT score to get admitted to SDSU. So my point was that there's no way Duke would have bothered extending an offer if it was obvious in speaking with him that he's dumber than dirt. And, sadly, that IS obvious when you listen to some kids out there, great football talent or now.

Rivals has us tied with UMass in recruiting...I didn't even realize UMass played football.

UMass has been playing at the FCS level but is moving up to FBS this year to replace Temple in the MAC.
If UMass still has a class rated as high as ours come LOI signing day in February I'll eat my Monty hat.

Sports had us at 89, below Utah St (83 then) which had had the same exact number of commits, two then, and none of the aggie verbals were rated. SDSU had one two-star and one not rated. I'm not sure that the calculation system they use is effective or accurate.

For pretty much every school, the best classes come together by getting a couple big time commitments and that kid would be such commit. Having said that, I'll now re-cross my fingers.

Scout has the LV running back as only a two * player so I'm not sure he'll spur on other players to commit to SDSU. The rankings are all over the place! Scout has Morris only a 2 * but has Dakota a 3 * and the T.E. not rated---almost completely oppisite of Rivals. Who knows!!!

You make a good point and I'll admit I relied too heavily on what Rivals thinks of the kid along with who has contacted him. Right now, 247Sports gives him only a 78 rating. That's the same as Alex Howard had from our 2012 class. However, as he gets additional offers, that rating will rise, maybe considerably. Anyway, you're correct that particularly this year and last, there seems to be a greater disparity than in the past as to how the various services rate players and Pumphrey is no exception.
