We're talking about last year. He wasn't sacked because eye got rid of the ball quickly but anyone who watched the games could tell he was under pressure a ton. I get that. But, it's not like his comp %% was any good with a lot less pressure and two NFL WRs. Because he was throwing the ball 40 yards down the field constantly; get a clue.

I wouldn't sleep on Boise State just yet. They've put up double digit winning records 9 out of the last 10 seasons (9 wins in 2005). When you have great recruiting and great coaching you can maintain that type of success no matter how many impact players you lose. Ask Kentucky basketball.

Youngest team in NCAA last two years. Hauck started pretty much all frosh and soph the last couple of years and still they showed glimmers of hope when they beat UH and led in several games. Youth and inexperience led to lots of mistakes and losses as a consequence.
This year they will have Sophs, Juniors, and some Seniors who have experience playing in their system and should eliminate some of those mistakes. I don't see them having a winning record, but I can see them beating a few of the teams picked for the upper half of the conference and getting to five or so wins considering their schedule. I wouldn't be shocked to see them give Minny a run in the opener as they get them at home late at night (8pm PT) in the hot August Vegas weather.

They also got blown out by an FCS team, Washington State, Wyoming, Nevada, Wisconsin, Boise, Air Force, SDSU, and TCU. Hawaii went a whopping 2-4 on the road with wins only over Idaho and Louisiana Tech, hardly impressive.

Just haven't seen any improvement over the past couple of years.

So you didn't watch Oregon State under Katz and Stanford under Luck very much did you? If you did, I suggest you try watching football with your eyes open this season.

Difficult to see BSU as a dud, since they are still going to be good, will likely win the conference, and will go to a bowl, even if they don't have a team this season to compare with the last few. So if a dud is a club that falls well below expectations, I'll pick Air Force. Everyone always thinks they'll be strong, but I could see them winning four or five.
And if a sleeper is a team that rises well above expectations and challenges for the title, then why not us? Nobody in the press seems to think we'll do anything good this year, so we have lots of room to surprise people.
I've seen every Aztec quarterback since Jesse Freitas, both the difference makers and the dudes who were just amassing stats but not really accomplishing anything. Guys like Penrose, Gutierrez, Santos and Blanton were leaders. The closest Lindley ever came to picking up his team and carrying it Montana-like on his shoulders in a big game was in the Superdome in December, and we still didn't win. If I ranked all the Aztec passers I've seen Lindley probably wouldn't make the top ten.

I don't think Katz is an upgrade over Lindley. I do think Katz, Butler, Lockett 2.0, and Sandifer is an upgrade over Lindley, Lockett 1.0, Denso, and a cast of thousands. Fresno State might surprise some people if the new coach could get them to play any defense whatsoever. Wyoming is due for a wakeup call. We won't know about Katz until we see him play. With his skill set, he'll do different things in this year's O, than what Ryan did last year.

A QB's completion % in a pro style offense is going to be lower than that of a QB in a spread/run-and-shoot type of O. Also, his yards-per-completion numbers are probably going to be higher. If Ryan had been throwing slants and 5-yard-out passes his % would have been higher. Just sayin. According to the SDSU Rivals report, Katz will be playing both of those Os this upcoming season. Ludwig or Long is quoted as saying that spread will be mixed-in some because of the arsenal of receivers on the team.

Because he was the #1 overall pick and considered the best QB prospect since Peyton Manning, while Lindley was a 6th round pick? That might have something to do with it.

That might have something to do with it. So one was better than the other? Nothing to do with anything else? That's all I wanted to hear.
