This is the video of NC State celebrating getting into the Tournament. About 55 seconds in the head coach says they are going to win and they are going to the final four. I don't know if I like his confidence or if he just guaranteed a loss against us. Pretty cool though... www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YNQ9OZ3ifoIf he did say that he is delusional. He should consider himself lucky he made the Tournament Not really. I'm sure he can get tickets somewhere.

Nah, as an NC State fan I'm happy with the comment. If he had said "one game at a time" or some such nonsense it just would have just been awkward.
Have you never been to a pep-rally where a coach has spoken? This is commonplace.

Have you never been to a pep-rally where a coach has spoken? This is commonplace. Coach Fisher would never say that, so it isn't commonplace in this neck of the woods. In your defense, while the team's bracket announcement was recorded, I can see how the coach could potentially feel like he was having a private discussion with his team.

It also looks like it was recorded by someone in the NCSU video department with the intention of putting it on the NCSU website, since it wasn't skyped to CBS. Making it even less press-related. So even more of an NCSU family environment.

It was recorded by our University Website (gopack.com). There were no media in the room other than the Wolfpack video folks. Coach Gottfried's comments were for his team not the media. What would you want the coach to say to his team? "Hey guys we got a bid so be happy, but we will lose the next game?" Seriously?

I don't have any problem with the comment. He was just trying to give his team some confidence and let them know he believed in them. Also, it looks like this was and insider meeting, in the excitement of the moment, he probably forgot there were cameras in the room. No big deal. I'm sure Coach Fisher is telling his team the same thing.
Of course, it is certainly Coach Fisher's right to use this to motivate our team. Coaches love to invent insults to get their team's fired up.

It was not as if they put out a 60 minutes of raw footage, it was a highly edited 1:30 clip. It's no big deal, but still waiting for the footage of JT III calling the final 4 as well. You always see these Ruthian Calls in March, no?

It looks like Steve Fisher is aware of what was said by the coach. Attached is a transcript of a recent press release, here is a quote by Fisher: On whether the team has an advantage considering they're going to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year:"I'm not sure what that will mean. Obviously it's an advantage to having played before and know the routine, the obligations you have at the press conference, (and) the open 40-minute practice. There's some demands on your time that if you've done it before, you're used to. They play in a league that's very high profile. They play in situations where there's a ton of media there. They will be prepared. If you go back and pull the video of when our game was announced, they had a camera in with their team. If they were honest, before that popped up, they're probably saying `NIT bound.' When they saw their name, they were so euphoric with what they did and said. I don't blame them. Both teams are going to be excited to be there and I believe it will be a really good game." goaztecs.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/031212aaf.html

Come on, he didn't say that. He said that right now we're playing as well as anyone in the country and that we can go to the Final Four. He didn't say we will, he said we can. And that much is true. You can too, but you can be assured both teams are only focused on one game today.
I wouldn't want anything less from my coach. I'd hope you want Fisher to think you're capable of winning, too.

What coach isn't going to tell his players that they can do well?
"Hey guys, we can make the top 32, i just know it.". Doesn't sound as motivational.

He absolutely does not say "We're going to the Final Four." It's more like "We [?] go to the final four," with an implied "Could" or "Can" abbreviated. How you're hearing the words "We're" and "Going" is beyond me.

He's confident in his team. Good for him - he should be.
Aren't we getting a little over-sensitive here?

Fisher would not say that, but their HC is not Fisher. I happen to think it will be a good, close game that could go either way. I am super interested to see how our guys play. Does Franklin come out and prove he belongs in the NBA? Does Tapley show that he is an NBA sharpshooter? Or do our guys clank shot after shot like they did at the end of the game when we had the National Champion UConn Huskies down by 5 and ready to take pouncing? We crumbled last year. We were better team than UConn. How will we respond this year?

He clearly says "We [can] go to the final four....... we can do it." So relax. Correct! There is a big difference between saying you will go to the final 4, and saying I believe we can go to the final 4. But, that is just showing your confidence in the team. One thing I would not overlook, and maybe some don't know this, but Gottfried was a coach at UCLA and has been at 7 final 4's including the one in 1995, which they won. So, he does have quite a bit of experience of winning in the NCAA. As much if not more than Fisher. That makes it a very interesting, and possibly a good match-up with the AZTECS. Whichever team can impose it's will on the other is going to win this one. I believe...... ;D
