I know most have already heard about Kelvin getting a well deserved 6th year from the NCAA.....but I would like to remind all as to how big of a deal this is.....especially with losing Eric Lawton.
If healthy (and I'm going to assume he is, since he played summer ball), Kelvin is a very important cog in this years team.
A true 2 guard, that plays balls out. He can hit the outside shot, which we really need on this team. He could actually start at the 2, but more than likely will be that inspirational 6th man off the bench at the 2.
The hidden plus to Kelvin returning (and with Lawton out), is that is gives us depth at the 2 spot and allows Chase Tapley to move and learn the PG position.
Coach Fisher is very, very, excited about Chase Tapley and this puts Chase on the floor much more as a back up point and a back up 2.
Some are really worried about our depth at guard with Lawton not being admitted to school. I am not one of them. I think the 4 we have....DJ Gay, Tyrone Shelley, Kelvin Davis, and Chase Tapley are plenty.

Well, since I have been exploring a deep dark hole in the ground recently ( ;D) I had not heard this news. But it is good news for sure. I just hope that Kelvin is not taking too big a risk with his health by playing.
One other thing. Is D.J. going to play the point? I thought there was some question regarding his ability to play that position adequately.

DJ Gay will start at Point Guard. Many fans have their doubts about DJ being able to handle the point.
I can tell for sure.....Coach Fisher thinks DJ Gay is going to be a very good point guard. He is a big backer of DJ Gay and has said (in private), that DJ Gay is much better than most people think.
Is he as good as Richie? I don't know. He does some things better than Richie and there are some things he can't do as well.
Chase Tapley (incoming frosh and Sac Player Of The Year) will back up at point guard and Coach Fisher really likes him.

It was only a few years ago, 2006-07, that the Aztecs only had two guards available for most of the season. Brandon Heath averaged 37 minutes a game and Richie Williams averaged 34 minutes a game. They both played all 40 minutes in many games. Compared to that season the Aztecs have great depth. PG: DJ Gay / Tapley SG: Shelley / Davis I think Shelley will play some SF. There will be some teams that have a high scoring smaller / quick SF. Shelley will be needed on defense.
