In my opinion, the safety position may be the greatest position of need on the team. The way Rocky's defense is set up, you need really strong safeties that can come up and make a hit while at the same time excel in pass coverage. Safeties in a 3-3-5 should be making lots of plays. However, too often we saw safeties getting beat for TD's and taking in-proper angles in run support. I can count on one hand how many times a Safety came up an made a bone jarring hit. We need more of that...
For that reason, Kendrick Mathis may be the most important recruit in this year's class and I believe will have an opportunity to get on the field within the next couple years. He is a big strong athletic kid. However, we need even more athletes at that position.

Shelton and Mathiw could come in and push for playing time right away.

I totally agree with you guys. I think another winning season under Rocky and heading into the BE we'll be able to recruit a different type of athlete

I don't disagree, he also needs speed & beef at LBer with that 3-3-5. The DLine needs some more size. JMO

Need cover corners. We may already have them on the roster, but we need them . I think they are the most important part of rockys scheme.
He likes to play man coverage and blitz. If you don't have CB's who can go man to man, the system doesn't work as well.
The NOLA bowl drove me crazy. 3rd and their QB throws up a balloon that is eiter caught or PI.

It all starts up front. Too many injuries and unavailable players from the DL. Starting with Neilson, Beed, Onuwako, Trujillo, JJ, etc. Creates major problems with the starters and the 2-deep and leads to more inexperienced guys having to shoulder the load. We did not have 1 sack vs LL and therefore the DBs were under severe pressure covering tall, excellent players who made grear catches. I hardly lay the blame on the DBs solely and think we have fine , tough guys back there and pretty good depth and we get Josh Wade back next year. The big need is at DL and rush LBs. Seau and Jack should add depth and help here and Andrews will be back from injury. There is also the DL from SFCC who had to redshirt because he transfered in late during Fall practice and did not have the time to learn the schemes. Think that Feely might be a strong consideration for the Aztec position. If we could get a ready, strong DT from the JCs in this recruiting class that would really help.

That guy from SFCC is a DE and just a rotation guy. He isn't going to have a huge impact, not from what I've seen. Josh Wade will help and we also have the DB from Oceanside who has been hurt the last 2 years, Whitaker. When he is healthy, he is a stud!

Rocky was on 1090 this AM- according to him the major need is DL,especially DT- may need JC transfer

I would put safety at #2 behind the d-line. We have good corners, but not enough "stud" safeties. I'm assuming McFadden comes back.

I think its just harder to recruit good a DT they all leave to the Pac12 or the other big name conferences. Last year we had two from SD on our radar and both left for the Pac12. And when I say good Dts I mean guys who cab step in and make a difference in year one or two

If DTs were easy to find Rocky wouldn't have come up with the 3-3-5 and the SEC wouldn't be the best conference in football.

Never thought of it like that lol I think they'll keep doing what it looks like the plan is, keep going after these DEs and hope some of them grow into the next Ernie Lawson or Jerome Long. Another big hit that the Aztecs took this year was losing N. Spencer he would of helped with depth for sure

No high school kid can sign right now. He can give a verbal but that's it.

Could Little Kazee be seen at safety, not sure what side of the ball he wants to play on.
