Buster Posey last 7 games:
.200 BA .240 OBP .259 SLG .499 OPS
I always find it interesting when a young player comes up and plays better than he did in the minors for 100 at bats or so and the entire fan base thinks that is his new level.
The same thing happened in St Louis with Jon Jay. That was good for the Padres because that convinced them they didn't need Ludwick any more. Jay's OPS in "AAA" - .855. Jay's OPS in 123 ABs in MLB .968.

Big deal..7 games where he had to face the likes of Josh Johnson, Anibal Sanchez, Chad Billingsley, and Clayton Kershaw. I notice you always point out the oppositions SP when it's the Padres. Posey is and will be a stud for years. Dude is hitting .350 after all that, with a whopping .930 OPS and .392 OBP. He has also K'd very little, so he is handling MLB pitching pretty well I'd say

Posey is the real deal. Josh basically hit the nail on the head. What a weak thread....

By the way, Posey was 3 for 5 tonight with 2 runs 2 RBI and a walk.....not to mention the fact that he must be doing something right in the game-calling department given how well the Giants' staff is throwing...

He was on the team when they lost 9 of 10 recently. There have been 100s of players who started real hot and cooled way off.

The point of that stat was the Giants lost 9 of 10 with Posey. Everyone is thinking the Giants current streak is what they will do the rest of the season. Seeing they lost 9 of 10 with the same team speaks otherwise. Posey did hit .321 (9/28) but had no walks and only 1 extra base hit during that time. There is more to hitting than BA. BA .321 OBP .321 SLG .428 OPS .749 Not bad but everyone was slumping when they lost 7 in a row and only scored 15 runs in those 7 games. Right now every hitter for the Giants is on a hot streak. This to shall pass. Go Padres.

Although, I did form that opinion before we added Tejada and Ludwick, whom are obvious upgrades over Everth Cabrera (offensively), and the left field platoon/revolving door we had.
I hate the f'ing Giants, I hope the Pads take em out.

Mayber his first year of Little League ball, but that's it my friend.

I'm curious but where in his history all the way back to college ball does Posey show he's not the real deal? Mayber his first year of Little League ball, but that's it my friend. He is a good player. But not as good as we have seen. I think he and the Giants are playing over their heads right now and teams whose players all get hot together tend to all cool off together and suddenly and surprisingly (to most) start to lose. Last 10 games .243 BA .297 SLG .300 OBP His overall numbers are slowly moving toward his expected results.
Last year he played mostly in "A+". He had a good year but nothing that other players hadn't done. Player | BA | OBP | SLG | OPS | AB | Age | Buster Posey | .326 | .428 | .540 | .968 | 291 | 22 | Kellen Kulbacki (Padres) | .332 | .428 | .589 | 1.017 | 304 | 23 | Brandon Wood (Angels) | .321 | .383 | .672 | 1.055 | 536 | 20 |
I use those two because I knew of them. I didn't search for league leaders. People are now expecting him to be better in MLB than he was at "A+" just last year.
Giant fans think Travis Ishikawa will continue his hitting. He is hitting .299 .345 .439 .784. For a 25 year old who had a career minor league average of .260, that is not likely.

Posey had a 21 game hitting streak and now hasn't hit in 5 of his last 10 games. Last 13 games:
.227 BA .292 OBA .273 SLG .565 OPS
There were Giant fans that were sure his numbers of two weeks ago (.371 .407 .579 .986) was what Buster brought but now it has dropped (.342 .389 .518 .907) the last couple of weeks. Still awefully good numbers but there is a little more question of where it will end.
He had multi-hit games in 12 of 21 games. He has had 1 multi-hit game in last 13 games.
I pray he continues cold for the Padres series this coming weekened.

Baseball is a game of ups and downs. I expect Posey, when healthy....to hit .300-.320 with 15-25 homer potential.
His ceiling could be even higher. Baseball players, experts say, don't hit their ceiling power wise, until 26 or 27.

There have been some really incredible projections from Giant fans for the young man. He is only 23 so he is still on the steep part of the curve but I wouldn't project from his current numbers, which I think based upon his minor league numbers are aberrant.

National League Rookie of the Year??? Only because Latos was just over the number of games in 2009 to be a rookie this year.
