I'm just not going to get all that worried about NMSU based upon 4 or so minutes of video. Like most schools, they'll have some talent, but then it's a question of how much depth they have and I do not believe they have more than we do. Shoot, it's damn difficult to recruit to UNM so I have to believe it's more difficult recruiting to NMSU. Wellman will have the kids ripped and ready to play a full 60 minutes and if some don't care to do so, Hoke will find a place for them on the bench. =Bob True, but we don't win many road games. the past is no indicator of the future. keep living in the past and expect failure.

According to three Aztec players of my acqauintance who are on the two-deep depth chart, the most significant difference between the previous coaching staff and the current one is Wellman in their opinion. They describe him as someone who works them incredibly hard, helps them achieve things they did not know they were capable of and who cares a great deal about them as people.
As for the tire story, it is my understanding it was first weakened by O-line JC transfers who mistakenly tried to eat it, resulting in the weakened plys that then separated during the tug of war.

True, but we don't win many road games. the past is no indicator of the future. keep living in the past and expect failure. My point was not to live in the past, but to make people realize that wins (against anyone) are not a given. Like it or not, this team needs to prove they can win on the road (or anywhere for that matter). Like I said in another post, 3-1 OOC won't be easy.

I heard straight from Coach Hoke's mouth that he would not have taken the job if Wellman couldn't come with him. Said he believes he is the best he has ever seen.

Our OOC schedule this year would be a given 3-1 for Utah, TCU and BYU. On the contrary if none of those are a given for us then we are a really, really, really s#!++y or badly coached team.

Well we did only go 4-8 last year with an offense that ranked 86th nationally and a defense that was only a bit better than that at 74th nationally, and did I mention the Wyo/UNLV meltdowns? While I think we made strides last year, I'd say "s#!++y" is still a fair description of where the program is at at this point in time.
Looking forward to putting those things behind us this year.

It's a difficult conference in which to win road games and if Long or someone like him was still here and turning out soft players, I'd agree with you. But he's gone and Wellman is the best thing to happen to SDSU since Ohton was strength and conditioning coach. I am not among those hoping for an 8 win season this year, but I seriously doubt any of the conference teams will be referring to our players as the "Beach Boys". =Bob

And surely, as a coach, you know that changes in the former culture cannot be changed overnight. Meltdowns, IMHO, are mental, not physical, breakdowns. Get punched in the mouth and you give up. It's been the rap against SDSU players for most of the time we've been in the WAC and MWC and I think Hoke and Wellman will change that, although I would not that the Wyo loss came after a brutal loss to TCU and the UNLV loss came after an almost equally brutal loss to Utah, so physicality may have played into them a bit. Either way, I think we'll see a much tougher team this year, both physically and mentally. =Bob

We have lost to San Jose state twice and Idaho on the road the past few years - we basically have lost to WAC teams on the road for the past half decade. It is not a given, but it is a game we need to win.

This year will be a nice and welcome surprise for Aztec fans. For the second time in the past 5 years we finally have a competant staff.
Rocky made Hay with Manure for years at NM. Hoke took the botton 119 team and put them in the top 20 without even so much as an office for himself.
Expect greatness-we have no reason to expect anything less! ;D
