I can't think of a more polarizing question in America than abortion. There are passionate views on both sides of this issue. It's interesting to note that Roe v Wade, a Supreme Court decision issued nearly 40 years ago, has done nothing to reconcile the two sides of the debate. A central part of this debate is how we view the unborn. In fact, I would argue that our views on that particular point help define what and who we are as a society. Here is one view on the subject. www.realclearpolitics.com/2011/04/27/kermit_gosnell_is_the_canary_in_the_mineshaft_254473.htmlAzWm

His is a very sexist view of the debate. For him to say that the woman has no rights once she is pregnant is completely amazing.
This is the kind of guy that would force a nine year old rape victim to carry the pregnancy to term.

Just remember it is either pro-abortion or anti-abortion, there is no such thing as pro-life. I believe most people regardless of their view point on abortion are pro-life, can't say I know too many people who are anti-life.

His is a very sexist view of the debate. For him to say that the woman has no rights once she is pregnant is completely amazing. This is the kind of guy that would force a nine year old rape victim to carry the pregnancy to term. He is saying that a fetus is more than a benign tumor. Look, this is about the thorniest issue of all. There are no easy answers. If one thinks that a fetus is nothing special, abortion on demand is an easy call. For those who value a fetus as a potential human being, yet understand the arguments on the other side (young girls being impregnated by rape, etc.), the issue is agonizingly complex. With that in mind, I find your response to be something less than thoughtful. AzWm

Ok, you want thoughtful.
Those that are anti-abortion call themselves "pro-life"
What is the definition of life?
Is it HUMAN Life?
What makes us HUMAN and the ape not HUMAN?
Is the aborting of a Non-HUMAN life OK?
Answer and we can continue.

Do you consider your omelette baby chickens? You do realize, I assume, that hens lay eggs whether or not they've been fertilized? =Bob

Simple fact of the matter is that if a woman does not want to have a baby, they have managed to get abortions when it was illegal to do so. The medical profession realized that they could cut way down on abortion related deaths if abortion was legalized because women would not have to go to back alleys to have the fetus removed.
No matter what the law is, women will find a way to abort pregnancies when they are convinced that they do not want to have that baby.
In Samoa the doctors were baffled as to why so many Samoan teenage girls were losing their pregnancies. My father did a little quick research and explained to the other doctors the simple fact that all Samoan girls knew about a reed that grew near the sea shore. All they had to do was insert the freshly cut reed into their cervix and the sap of the reed would cause a "spontaneous abortion." Samoan girls never went to a doctor for an abortion, as they could do a better job by themselves. Where there is a will there is a way.

It may well be an over-statement but there are estimates suggesting there were upwards of a million illegal abortions a year prior to Roe v. Wade. I do know that in '67 a friend who was a year ahead of me knocked up his girlfriend and she went to NYC and got an abortion with very little hassle at all. =Bob

This issue is to hard. If you could ever agree on when life begins, you might have a chance.

The biggest issue is not abortion, it is the taking by force of every working American's gross wage regardless of the ability to pay any tax. This Country was founded on the issue that taxation without representation was a killer.

A living sperm units with a living egg. There is no period of non-life, so whatever "it" is, it is alive.
When two human beings reproduce, they don't create a different type of being then themselves. Therefore, "it" is clearly human.
Therefore, the unborn are alive and human.

Is the aborting of a Non-HUMAN life OK? Answer and we can continue. I don't know the definition of life, but the unborn are clearly alive. (a living sperm units with a living egg and creates a living zygote. There is no period of non-life). If the unborn was not alive, you wouldn't need an abortion to stop it's growth, that is kill it. Since I am unable to define life, can I go kill another human being? Clearly the unborn are human. Because their parents are human. Two humans reproduce another human (not an ape). The zygote is human, the fetus is human, the new born is human, the toddler is human, the child is human, the teenager is human, the adult is human and the senior citizen is human. We're human, because that is the type of being we are. Yes, if the unborn are not human, then go have abortions all you want. Unless they are an endangered species, then you go to jail.

sooooo... after everything is said and done, and what it comes down to is what one human being rationalizes to themselves, "at what point does it become wrong to kill a living thing?" shouldn't we just ask ourselves this very question and leave it at that?
the debate itself is convoluted, and evokes ouroboros in its endless death.
I know people feel fairly strongly about this topic, and I understand why, its a very conflicted and tragic experience for a female to experience. others may have very strong opinions on an individual who opts to follow through with abortion, or, they may feel it may be a woman practicing her rights to her body, and her life experience. Personally, I feel, which I find it harder and harder to do, "feel," that its a sad thing when one is given the "choice" to take away any form of potential happiness.
