ATTENTION SDSU MARKETING GUYS: Dedicating a game this year to THE MAN is an absolute must. This needs to be repeated 1,000 times a day until it comes to fruition...

Thanks for the memories Coach; your teams made for a happy little Aztec on many a Saturday night.

While I am sad that he is gone, he did live a full life and even before Hank Bauer said it on 1360 I was thinking the very same thing...
He should have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame while he was still alive to enjoy it. As soon as I heard that he died I felt anger at those who have kept him out for the last 15 years.
Don was a great man, a great coach, and his impact will be felt both on and off the field for decades to come.
I'm just sorry that I never got to meet him.

So glad I got to watch his teams while I was in school. Spoke to him several time at Aztec events and always told him how much I enjoyed his football teams. RIP Saint Don.

A great man and a terrific coach.
His great Aztec and Charger teams made San Diego a football town.
Name the Stadium after him!!

So sad he left us with so many things we wished for him left unfinished. A first ballot unanimous Hall of Famer in my heart.

So glad he was recognized with the honorary doctorate, a small token of appreciation for a giant of a man.

We older fans are as frustrated as we are because he gave us a high standard to aspire to, something carried forward by Claude Gilbert but no one since. We are blessed that he gave us this standard, because the program was faltering when he took over. There was no certainty that things would have worked out how they did.

Feeling no pain at an Aztec tailgate I crashed a "private party" so Coach could sign my visor. As security was about to SMTD my buddy "AztecBruce" told Coach, "he comes all the way from Georgia to watch the Aztecs play", in which Coach replied, "we need more fans like him" as he happily signed my visor, (which is in a place of honor). It was probably my proudest moment as an Aztec. My first year at State being his last, I feel fortunate to say I was an Aztec when Coach was still there.
I think I'll make a sincere effort to catch every "home" game I can this year.
RIP Coach.

Never saw him coach at SD St or St Louis, but I did have the good fortune to see his Charger teams play. And those teams from 79-82 offensively were as good as anybody before or since. NFL Hall of Fame missed it here, Don should have been in long ago. An innovator, a winner, a great man. RIP Coach

Lucky I got to meet him once and had a photo taken with him. I think it was in Ann Arbor a few years back. Great guy.. really nice. What a genius too. But you're right.. he lived a long full life. He will be greatly missed.

Coryell was a great, and humble man. I was fortunate to be able to meet him, and his wife about
6 years ago at a AAF tailgate. I will always cherish that meeting. Don was San Diego State Football.
He will be missed not just as a coach, but as a great fan of the Aztecs.
