Aztec Women's Basketball's 2009-10 Recruiting Class Ranked First In The MWC - #31 in the nationThis rating is based solely on the two high school players the Aztecs signed. Player Position ESPN-overall-RatingMelissa Sweat SG Rank: #70 Jasmine Porter PF Rank: #94 Not in the rating is 3 players who will play for the Aztecs this year. PG Sajoyia Griffin 5'5" JC All American SG Courtney Clements 6'0" Arizona Transfer - All PAC-10 Freshman C Malia Nahinu 6'6" Arizona Transfer These 5 newcomers could form a team on their own and compete with the MWC.
The Aztecs women will not miss a beat this coming season. They are again poised to be at the top of the MWC.

And we have a spot for one more transfer this year and maybe more if a (some) player(s) leave(s). Having 15 scholarships instead of 13 makes a big difference. The teams at the top can really separate themselves from the lesser teams. In Beth we trust. Damn shame she ever left. If she'd stayed, I think by now we'd be a total powerhouse.

I wonder if we don't appreciate her more now that we realize what we had and she was willing to come back and essencially start over to get us back to where we were. Did not take her all that long now did it? We are blessed! |

Did not take her all that long now did it? We are blessed! Oh, I think we appreciated it the first time. Beth had to do what she thought was best and she discovered that it wasn't best for her. Not her fault, just the fault of Ohio State not recognizing the gem they had and dumping her before she could get the program in order. I think that a decade from now, she will be recognized up there with Saint Don when it comes to coaching. Ohio State blew it big time when they fired her and I'm very, very happy that they did so because we got her back. =Bob |

As a post-script to all of this, Coach Fisher told those of us that gathered at McGregor's for the Aztec Club get-together lat evening that he had just met two transfer student athletes Beth brought in on a campus visit, reporting one was from Duke, the other from Oregon State and that Beth was really hoping to get at least one of them. Beth is an extraordinary person and coach who has once again built an excellent program and now has the luxury of reloading rather than trying to rebuild each year. I'm inclinded to believe that she is on the verge of producing top 25 teams on a regular basis and a top ten team when things fall right.

Beth is an extraordinary person and coach who has once again built an excellent program and now has the luxury of reloading rather than trying to rebuild each year. I'm inclinded to believe that she is on the verge of producing top 25 teams on a regular basis and a top ten team when things fall right. Let's hope we get the Duke girl and not the OSU girl. OSU is nothing special at all in women"s basketball. |

We really do need a lot more butts in the seats for not only both Basketball Teams but also for Football. I make all Football games and will got to more Basketball this year. I still say that marketing and the screwy parking are part of the Basketball mess. Not the parking itself, but when do you pay and when do you not need to pay. Why is it such an inconvenient thing to get that parking ticket and then walk back to place it in your window. Why not just get another buck or two for the ticket and then include a parking pass with your season ticket?

One has to wonder whether, if another serious offer from a Big-Six conference comes along, Beth might decide to give the "Big Time" a try once more. Such an offer might look very tempting if the MWC loses prestige.

Pragmatically, if she does leave I hope it is before we also lose a fine head coach in waiting; personally, I hope she has seen the grass isn't greener and she can win deep in the tourney here and finishing her career here would be the best for her |

Aztecbill's roster shows Ashley Duffy, however it is my understanding she is transferring which leads me to believe we may have another scholarship becoming available.
