Very excited to see what the new pieces look like, how Williams progressed, what type of game is Leonard going to have viz is he going to put on weight and bang a little bit more on offense or is he going to be stroking 3s and cutting like a mad man, will we have a deep and balanced rotation or will the core 5 from last year carry the big and important minutes, will DJ and Chase shoot like they did at the end of the year for most of the year, are we going to go super athletic pressing, half court offense or lineups that accentuate both.
Very excited and interested. Football this year is a chance to see - hopefully - progress, a foundation built and finally get to watch my squad in a bowl game; basketball is a chance to see what all that type of building that football must now engage in reach it's fruition.

Although football is preoccupying the majority of my mind, I cannot help but get excited for our rising basketball program, especially since we’re garnering so much publicity. Starting the year either ranked or just hovering outside top 25 is a good way to begin our 2010 season. I hope we prove our worth and climb the rankings.

Basketball? Was Aztecs football again so terrible that everybody just ignored it this year?

I agree on football Monty. I am more excited about this season than any of the last 5 or 6 years.

Nothing wrong with that - I'm sure we all have the ability to multi-task. Being excited about B-Ball certainly doesn't take away from what we need to do to support the Football team. I thought that State was becoming a basketball school anyway? They definitely talk basketaball all year around and schools like Kansas and Duke. Thus, we can to! The B-ball team is stacked! Way, waaaay, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to early for this. Football is the only thing that matters right now. I haven't forgot about football. Just fired up for basketball. It can't come soon enough.

And remember, basketball starts just after football. Practices are going on early in the football season.

Football is a hope, Basketball is an expectation. Am I excited for both, but basketball has a chance to be very special.

So football gets April to September for AztecMesa pre season talk and basketball gets when? As far as I'm concerned it's football January through December but basketball is a nice little diversion while we wait for signing day and spring camp. ;D

I am really excited about basketball.
1. Who will we schedule? Hopefully some more and interesting teams that are worthy of the greatness our team will be.
2. Who will we sign next November to replace the gaggle of players we will lose?
3. Will Tim Shelton come back and be the player he was? Even 10 minutes a game would be huge.
4. How will the newcomers blend into the returning core of players.
5. Will Medhi Cheriet fare better than the French Soccer team?
6. Can Billy White not land on a New Mexico foot?
7. How will all those minutes be shared?
8. How badly will we crush USD?
9. Will the Aztecs finally capture the city? When it happens, and it will, we will see 5 digit crowds for nothing teams on a regular basis.

You both agree the season, for your sport, is always.

The Las Vegas Sun (local newspaper) is running a story "10 minutes with..." (Q&A style) interviewing a different basketball player each week. It gives a great perspective from the players view of the team and includes goals for the off season and next year. It also mentions how new players like Q Thomas have performed in practice and what is expected from them next year (I would love to hear White's perspective on his perceived impact of Rahon or Jamaal) I wish the tribune did something like this for those of us who are hyped about next year and would love to hear from the players about off season improvement, individual goals, etc. www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/jun/21/10-minutes-unlv-guard-derrick-jasper/

Yes!
We hope football will be good. We expect basketball to be good. And it's always the right time to talk Aztec basketball.

I love Aztecs football... but my favorite part about football season starting is that basketball is then only 4 months away. Cant wait for November.
This appears to be the year that my hype for Aztecs hoops comes to fruition. Every season I am criticized for being such a "homer" and hyping this team to friends, family, coworkers, etc. This year's team looks like it will make a believer out of the doubters.

I am a hardcore basketball fan and would be fine if the season lasted 12 months. I enjoy football, but don't have the same passion that I do for hoops. This is primarily because I grew up playing basketball. It also helped to have a Boston Celtic married to my cousin.

The minute the basketball season ends ... the excitement for the next season begins. The fact that the last 4-5 years have all been better than the previous year also keeps me wanting more. Don't know if we are still after him but I stumbled across an article on a potential JC PF recruit George McGrew. Sounds like the guy is a banger, rebounder, defender and listed at a powerful 6'8 225. avc-basketball-fan.com/Scholarships.aspxavc-basketball-fan.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!895CD258DE8BB2A3!6540.entry

I'm a big basketball fan but I'm still not over last year! After such a great ride, the loss to Tennessee was so shockingly abrupt - I wasn't ready for the season to end.
Right now, I'm really looking forward to football.
