Evidently Utah's admission will have no effect on the ongoing attempt to investigate the BCS. Now they have two or three other Senators that almost got screwed involved.

Evidently, the Utah legislature is full of BYU grads who are now pissed ,some are trying to reverse Utah's decision, though that will not happen. By taking Utah and leaving BYU it is still a hot issue.,maybe even hotter. Also read the Justice department report. Obama supports the playoffs, they are going to happen. www.abc4.com/content/news/state/story/Hatch-vows-to-continue-fight-to-reform-BCS/Fii6g2fI3EKABheDbyM_Sg.cspx?rss=1451www.deseretnews.com/article/700034353/Sen-Orrin-Hatch-unsatisfied-with-the-BCS-response.html US Senator Orrin Hatch January 29th, 2010 Media Contact(s): Mark Eddington and Antonia Ferrier, (202) 224-5251 Printable Version OBAMA ADMINISTRATION MULLING ACTION AGAINST BCS Outline Possible Violations in Letter to Senator Orrin Hatch Today WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Justice responded today to Sen. Orrin Hatch’s concerns about the fairness and legality of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). In a four-page letter to Sen. Hatch, the Justice Department outlined the inequities of the BCS system and the Obama Administration’s willingness to work toward a solution. “The Department of Justice is reviewing your letter as well as other materials to determine whether an open an investigation into the legality of the current system under the antitrust laws,” said the letter to Hatch. In addition, the letter said that the Obama Administration is “exploring other options that might be available to address concerns with the college football post-season.” Included among the options the Administration is considering are proposals to encourage the NCAA to “take control of the college football post-season,” asking a governmental or non-governmental entity or commission to “study the benefits, costs, and feasibility of a playoff system,” asking the Federal Trade Commission to “examine the legality of the current system under consumer protection laws,” exploring whether other agencies may play a role in enacting reforms, and legislative efforts aimed at fixing the BCS system. “I’m encouraged by the Administration’s response,” Senator Hatch said. “I continue to believe there are antitrust issues the Administration should explore, but I’m heartened by its willingness to consider alternative approaches to confront the tremendous inequities in the BCS that favor one set of schools over others. The current system runs counter to basic fairness that every family tries to instill in their children from the day they are born. It is systematically unfair, jeopardizing students, players, education quality, ethics and true competition. I look forward to working with the Administration on this issue that effects so many of our young people, not to mention the millions of fans of college football, across the country.” Hatch wrote to President Obama on October 21, 2009 asking the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division to investigate the BCS. “After a careful examination of both the written and oral testimonies presented at this hearing, I believe a strong case can be made that the BCS is in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act. Therefore, I respectfully request that the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division look into this matter,” Senator Hatch wrote. anything more recent? say within the past week as source? The first link is from today. If you read the letter from the Justice department given politics takes while, the BCS faces some real issues, like loss of non profit status.

BYU won a National Championship. It could not do that today. The Mountain still has the Salt Lake TV's. BYU will go nuts and so should we. Utah gets more money and the rest of us fall behind them. Boise joined us to become a BCS school. We better root for them this year.
We need to push our Alumni to help in every way. Are we going to sit and take it? Don't you all love rejection?

Excellent! THe BCS NEEDS to be investigated. The fans won't be happy until there is a true playoff system in place. Be careful what you wish for. Yes, because it will be a playoff that starts with the 6 conference cabal, and then 2 at large, or something like that and it will be even more unfair - they'll be even less spots. it would be like the cowboys, steelers, patriots, etc getting together and deciding that say the nfc west and afc south aren't strong enough so they can compete for 2 of the at large bids and join the afc/nfc east, central, etc in the playoffs. THe current system is Leibnizian best of all possible worlds, because the other options are so evil, not just bad, but evil.

The real problem if I can Spinoza off for a moment is that the BCS may not be a trust but it denies equal access to University students to a chance at a championship. This makes the whole thing untenable because of education laws and most likely not a non profit enterprise but open to the full fury of the IRS. It Kant stand up . just like Title IX,if you take the governments money you got to dance to their tune. All it really takes is a bunch of football players form an undefeated team denied a championship game to file a complaint with the USDE OCR and away it goes.

That is going to be a hard case to make. The BCS are Kants though - they've taken us as a bunch of Marx, stormed into our Humes, loaded up the descartes with our things-in-themselves as if they were for-themselves and we have to work in the Mill and just like toddlers we play with Plato. It seems like just a little while ago we had a good chance at breaking the system, but those Camus and went, maybe we just have bad Lukacs
