The Padres have stated publicly that they are keeping Stauffer in the minors to stretch him out to 80 pitches. Could it be they are considering a switch when he comes back? Correia has not been very good in the last 8 games. He has a 6.00 ERA in his last 8 games. He only has 3 Quality Starts all year. Our bullpen has been great without Stauffer. Webb has been a very good replacement. Correia has a lot of experience in the bullpen before he joined the Padres. Let him earn his way back. We will need someone when (if) they shut Latos down or something unfortunate happens.

They could also use Correia in a couple starts to rest Latos later in the year so that they can string him out for the whole season.

First of all Stauffer continues to be roughed at Portland and needs the work to get sharp. I highly doubt Stauffer will take Correias spot when he comes back they are just working him back like this so he can start incase of injuries

Correia better get his $#!+ together, hopefully starting today, because the Padres won't give him a very long leash. We are in a pennant race.

Stauffer has a 2.80 ERA, in 100 innings, over the past two years with the Padres. He should be starting if Corriea doesn't start producing. Corriea has two more starts before he will be replaced. He better get it together or his next outing after that will be out of the bullpen in a game that is already lost. Mon, Jun 28 the Padres will host Colorado and Corriea is on schedule to face Jimenez. That is the perfect game to start Stauffer.

In his last 100 innings in MLB he has a 2.80 ERA. All he has to do is get his arm ready - he is a very good MLB pitcher. His recent inactivity was not related to his arm. There is no reason to think he can't come back and rock. Your objection is not based on sound logic. When his arm is ready I don't care if his ERA is 10.00. He is ready.

We are in a pennant race. yeah but we don't have any realistic replacements for Correia Stauffer is close to ready. He is not only a realistic replacement, he is a replacement that has a high probability to come in and win consistently. There is a reason they are grooming his pitch count to 80.

Another nail in Corriea's coffin. When we have a very good replacement available, I can't see throwing Corriea out there much more. Maybe next time he blows up Stauffer replaces him early and finishes the game strong. That would be a great time to switch their roles.

I have to agree with you Bill. i wanted Corriea to get back to last years numbers and improve on them. It appears that ain't going to happen. I take back my swap Stauffer for LeBlanc and support the above statement. Stauffer to replace Corriea would make us a damn strong rotation 1-5.

I would take Stauffer over Correia any day. But I can't blame Correia right now, he just lost his brother remember. That will do a whole lot to a person. May he RIP.

Id prefer Luebke to Stauffer in the rotation Luebke hasn't made one pitch in the majors yet philip. Do you have a memory at all? Do you remember how well Stauffer was pitching before his surgery? Less than a 1 era ring a bell?

Less than a 1 era ring a bell? Stauffer is a great swing/long guy but in the rotation he wouldn't be as effective, he made 1 start and there is no reason to change his role when he was so successful in it, and yes I know luebke hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors, neither did Strasburg till this year, whats your point?

Well first off, Luebke is no Strasburg! Geeze almighty kid.

There is a reason Luebke was the 63rd pick in the draft and Strasburg was the #1 pick. Both Stauffer and Luebke have thrown limited innings this year due to injuries. But last year both were promoted about the same time. Stauffer to MLB and Luebke to "AA". How did they do? Stauffer 15 starts for the Padres - 3.58 ERA Luebke 9 starts for the Missions - 3.70 ERA How in your twisted mind does Luebke come out on top. Over the last two years Stauffer has pitched 96 innings for the Padres, mostly as a starter, with a 2.80 ERA. We need to get him a lot of innings. He is too valuable to not start.
