I sent a e-mail to our AD two weeks ago to get us in the Big 12. I said our selling point is our TV market which is bigger then Nebraska. I said the Pac 10 might not want the Big 12 to enter their TV market in Calif. Our AD has the contacts in the Pac 10. I think he can show that 2 million dollar donation shows long term support. So we need to win NOW. TV market rank is bigger yes, but the viewership is not even close and also Nebraska is a regional draw, SDSU has not been. Nebraska football is the entire state, plus has huge alumni groups all over the Midwest. They have their own PPV and are a national draw hence the ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, FSN, TBS, and Verses appearances in recent years. It's hard to argue for our TV market when Aztec football historically has not been a huge draw locally. The games have averaged 8,000 HH's tuned in when they are on CH4, only 4,000 on Verses. To compare USC delivers 32,000 HH's on average when they are on locally, ESPN's all game average from last year was 14,000 HH's (this is all games regardless of start time). Now I am not saying SDSU can't draw, the Notre Dame game did a great number, Aztec basketball has also done great on TV when we have seen games on ESPN or CBS, so the interest is absolutely there. It's clear that it just takes a bit to generate the interest. Win and all the good things will follow

just went and looked in case anyone was interested in some past viewership on TV , the SDSU at Notre Dame game in 08 delivered a 7.6 HH rating, this means that on average 76,000 local households had the game on during any 15 minute period. Now the bigger stat for me is the share of viewing, the share was a 17 overall, but peaked at a 25. What this means is that on average 17% of all the TV's on were tuned into this game and at one point toward the end of the game 1/5th of all the TV's on in San Diego were on the Aztec game, that's huge and I think a sign that aztec football really is a sleeping cash cow for the university, the interest is absolutely there, most fans are just waiting for a winner.

If the Big 12 does expand, there's a very good chance it will eye the MWC so if I were UNLV and SDSU, I'd be lobbying very had a package deal to the Big 12 as we're the only schools that could even come close to offsetting what tv power they lost from CU and NU bolting. BYU has significant tv power, but UofU already controls SLC and that means that the Pac 12 will control SLC. If the Big 12 takes schools other than UNLV and SDSU from the MWC, SDSU football will have a hard time going on much longer. We could lobby all we want but since Texas sits at the head of the table and seems to make the final decision, it might be very difficult for us to get a seat since neither SDSU nor UNLV are AAU members. Granted not all BigXII Lite are AAU members either but that’s beside the point. OTOH, if everyone is really out for themselves, then we need work on putting together an irresistible package with UNLV, which would be quite challenging since both of our football teams have been dismal at best. However, at least 8 of our other sports programs are appealing since they made the post-season.

If nothing else changes would it make sense for the MWC to try and add one more decent WAC team to replace Utah if they leave? Nothing to add after BSU.

There has never been a bigger time for SDSU football to step up. I believe we have the right coaches in place and a great quarterback coming into his own. Lets go SDSU awake the sleeping giant!

Or... most others now as well (i.e., TTech & OSU getting invited to Pac10). I keep harping on the notion that SDSU & UNLV should be a VERY attractive package to Texas is they want to keep intact, and strengthen, their own private conference. And I would have no problem playing around in Texas' personal play-pen for ~$15+mil per season.

SDSU and UNLV don't belong in the Big 12 and would be a giant albacore out of water. Whatever rivalry we have with BYU would be long gone too. The MWC is where we belong until the PAC-14 comes knocking on our door.

The Big 12 should add SDSU and UNLV. Everyone loves a trip to Vegas, and the conference would get a foothold in Southern California. Good markets, good basketball. Texas or OU would draw huge crowds. And we have winning streaks to extend vs. Oklahoma, Kansas and Iowa St.!

Grabbing the Yoots is the Pacs way of neutering the MWC!
