for the existing BCS conferences. If (when) Utah goes to the Pac 12, the Pac 12 picks up probably the best non-BCS school and also, and much more importantly to the Pac 12, they suddenly control the Rocky Mountain tv rights. With the addition of Denver via UofC and Salt Lake City via UofU, the Pac 12 know really does control the western hemisphere in regards to tv which is what was driving all this crazy conference expansion. Losing the SLC tv market will be terrible for the MWC as our tv ratings power drops significantly meaning less money. Also, we lose UofU's BCS significance as they definitely were a big part of our AQ quest.
Also, one of the best things for the existing BCS conferences with UofU going to the Pac 12 is that the biggest and loudest anti-BCS politician, Senator Hatch of Utah, will now be a BCS member and will presumably shut up. So much for anti-trust legislation.
And then there's Texas, a huge winner as they prove that they run college football as everything hinged on them. Their new UT tv network will make them millions upon millions plus they'll angle to get a bigger share of the Big 12 money for keeping it together. The Big 12 did however lose significant tv power with losing its place in Denver and Nebraska's huge following.
If the Big 12 does expand, there's a very good chance it will eye the MWC so if I were UNLV and SDSU, I'd be lobbying very had a package deal to the Big 12 as we're the only schools that could even come close to offsetting what tv power they lost from CU and NU bolting. BYU has significant tv power, but UofU already controls SLC and that means that the Pac 12 will control SLC. If the Big 12 takes schools other than UNLV and SDSU from the MWC, SDSU football will have a hard time going on much longer.

Could it be that Utah / BYU is a package due to legislation?

Well the Utah legislator should also protect BYU in regards to the BCS.

Could it be that Utah / BYU is a package due to legislation? Pac-10 won't add BYU due to their religious affiliation and BYU won’t go to the Pac-10 because they play on Sundays. If the Utah legislator takes that approach it will just end with Utah not getting invited into the Pac-1(2).

The thrust of this thread, that this was the best outcome for the BCS and the worst for us, is a point well made. But, then again what would you expect where the bottom line is who can control the most $$ by exerting thier power? The thought that UNLV and SDSU should be angling for Big 12 membership is not necessarily a bad idea. If nothing else it should be seriously looked at by the two schools. I am presuming our leadership has enough on the ball to be looking at all angles in this ongoing realignment of financial power. I don't think we've heard the last of whether or not the MWC will survive. Not saying it won't, just saying I think there are more "aftershocks" to come and I don't know what they are. So, be prepared as the Boy Scouts say. The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

I sent a e-mail to our AD two weeks ago to get us in the Big 12. I said our selling point is our TV market which is bigger then Nebraska.
I said the Pac 10 might not want the Big 12 to enter their TV market in Calif.
Our AD has the contacts in the Pac 10. I think he can show that 2 million dollar donation shows long term support. So we need to win NOW.

" www.shaggybevo.com/board/showthread.php/65864-The-official-I-m-embarrassed-at-our-University-threadIt appears many within the Longhorn Nation feel that Texas got played. As to losing the SLC market, I think most would agree that BYU controls that market despite the UofU being located in SLC. UofU has an almost "anti-LDS" sentiment about them, which is fine, to each his own, but when you are in the center of the LDS world it doesn't always play well with the majority of the population.

As I said in an earlier post, I am convinced Dr. Weber is working his butt off on this project and will put us in the best situation he possibly can.

And the OU fan base is very upset at their leaders. They are sick that OU is following Texas around sniffing the Longhorns ass.

It appears many within the Longhorn Nation feel that Texas got played. Or more accurately, that Texas played itself. BTW, I have no doubt the president of the university is a very unhappy camper right about now. Not only would going to the Pac have brought significant academic prestige to his school, but the guy is a Cal grad who word had it was elated with the idea of his current school being in the same conference with his alma mater.

Some of them didn't mind going to the Pac 10, but just the way it has all went down.

If nothing else changes would it make sense for the MWC to try and add one more decent WAC team to replace Utah if they leave?
