No doubt, this game looming on the 26th is bigger than the previous meeting. That said, I can see this game shaping up in one of two ways.
1) the hype is SO big, your team wants to win SO SO badly, that they come out tight, tentative, and mentally out of focus.
2) Buzz saw and would beat the Lakers.
I'm hoping for an opton #3 (the tough battle with both teams playing well like in Provo)...but the Aztecs have been eating, drinking, sleeping "beat BYU" since the last meeting and are frothing at the mouth right now...I'm not sure that option #3 can happen.

I would have to say at this point in the season the clear #1 goal is to get to a sweet 16. A close #2 is to beat BYU, but they go hand in hand. A win over BYU should solidify a top 2-3 seed and pave the road to a sweet 16. A loss (or 2) to BYU and we might be looking at a 4 seed with a much tougher road.

Sorry Hugh, I'll take option 2!

I thnk SDSU is going to come out with so much energy it will be unbelieveable. The crowd is going to be EPIC. It was so loud the other night against Utah and I expect it to be more of the same.

If the stars align, this Aztec team has F4 potential.

All I have to say is, don't rush the Court. Screw bYu. They don't deserve the credit worthy of rushing the court. We should just walk on to the court in line with the players and shake hands.
Then head to PB and tear it up.

Personally, I don't think there's a team in the country -- Ohio St., Pitt, Kansas, Duke -- that could play in altitude at Provo and beat Jimmer and the Fredettes. Those teams would all lose by at least 5, and probably double-digits.
Likewise, I doubt there's a team in the country that could win a game in Viejas this season. We don't have the altitude going for us, but the Aztecs just play amped-up, excellent ball at home in front of their fans.
I could see SDSU jumping to a big, early lead, Fredette getting hot, and pulling the Zoobs close, before SDSU drops the hammer about mid-way through the second half. We won't be hitting a wall like we did in Provo.
As for the game in the MGC Tourney, should the teams meet -- that would be a slugfest/barnburner/barroom brawl. Pretty much a toss-up, though I'd probably have to peg SDSU as a 1 or 2-pt. favorite.

The atmosphere will be thick, loud, and ferocious against New Mexico on Weds.

Of course, that assumes we're going to win and I think we will. Not a reason in the world to think DJ Gay will be tight. He's evolved into the coolest Aztecs PG ever. Tapley never looks like he's nervous, either, and he will be 100% by then. If we hold Jimmer to 20 - and I have absolute confidence we can at our place - we'll win comfortably. (Sorry, Hugh.)

As for the game in the MGC Tourney A "Newbie" question: I've seen "MGC" used a couple of times in posts here and am assuming that it's a boardism for the conference. What I haven't been able to find anywhere is its derivation or at least what the "G" stands for... Could one of the fine folks here enlighten this old newbie?

The emotion of sending BYU packin' for the last time out of San Diego with a loss, beating a top 10 team, all but assuring yourselves of the regular season championship, would be too much to contain....your student section will rush the court.
