"mid-majors"? Whatever. I thought they'd gone to "power conferences" (read "bc$") and "non-power conferences". The one thing he got right "But that could all change Feb. 26 when the two teams meet in San Diego for a rematch. The game will be televised on CBS nationally, and it is a can't-miss for any college basketball fan."

Grrrr...it is labels like this that I refuse to acknowledge. Makes me so angry.
I do want my team to win on the 26th, but honestly, it would take a Jimmiracle to do so.
What I DO want is that BOTH teams come to play so that knuckleheads like these guys can see that there are teams out West that can play ball other than their beloved teams out East.
Just hoping neither team lays an egg and gets blown out. A battle similar to the game in Provo is what I'm hoping the hoop fans across the nation will get to see.
A loss to the Aztecs is no harm/no foul. There is no shame losing to a top 10 team in the nation. Both teams will still fare well if we both win out from that point on to the conference tourney.

We aren't considered a mid-major anymore by ESPN...the end all be all.

fembone is doing one of your moves la, digging deep for Aztec news. However, the Tufts student writer needs a little work, such as this sentence where the author made a parody of the word parity: " in a season that has been the epitome of parody, they have just as much of a chance of winning it all as anybody else." It was at least a pretty good effort considering it was somebody at Tufts with little reason to write such an article about MWC hoops teams.

Other than the mid-major reference, pretty good article for a college paper. Writer did his homework.

Further, Butler did not "wet the appetite" of anybody last year -- but they sure did whet the appetite of college basketball fans last year for a changing of the hoops guard. Tufts clearly is mid-major when it comes to proper word-usage in published articles!!

I have been on the Tufts campus in Somerville Mass. Down Mass Ave from Cambridge. Total Liberal Arts Granola think tank. Women with unshaven pits and legs. There are a few good late night bars in Somerville that serve food all night. But if you are looking for a date, bring some serious beer goggles.

I'm pretty sure a lot of the students at "major" schools like South Florida and Depaul would shed their labels for even a taste of the success of "mid-major" programs like Gonzaga or Memphis.
Some might still call us mid majors ... but as long as we have a top 10 ranking and a top 3 seed .. who cares? If we become the best mid major program over the next ten years I'll be stoked, regardless of the label.

Upper minor or mid-major......either way it's insulting.

The "mid-major / major" thing is just plane stupid (tuft reference). At some point in time we need to treat all schools equally...similar to women's sufferage, there is a time when the world needs to wake up and cure the unfair treatment of others.
