Jimmer just passed Brandon Heath for most points in MWC history.

Borg is having Collinsworth bring the ball up to let Fredette rest even more than he normally does by taking plays off on "D". We cannot let a guy like Collinsworth (who is not a great ball handler) bring the ball up against us and let Fredette rest like that..... You're right, Collinsworth wouldn't be the guy to break a press. He really isn't too bad of a ball handler though. He played PG during most of his high school days and was named Mr Basketball for the state of Utah, which is not a lot compared to accolades available to a player in a more populated state like California but having someone who isn't going to be guarded by a 1 or 2 guard bring the ball up hasn't worked too badly for us. If he were guarded really close by DJ all the way up the court I doubt they'd keep giving it to him.

Anyone who watches a BYU game with Fredette playing in it and says the refs were not a difference maker, has no idea what they are talking about. Calls, particularly ticky-tack ones, can and often do,change the momentum AND play of the opposing team (See last game of the NBA Finals last year twixt the Celtics and Lakers). It's one thing for the "star" to get the call,as that's just the way it is,but Fredette gets away with murder in terms of what he is gifted. I say that the first time he goes to the hole he gets slammed...just to even things out shall we say.

I had to turn off the game because I was disgusted by the home-cooking calls all for j. Every time he went to the hole, a foul was called. He had more FT attempts in the first half than the entire Aztec team had for the whole game at CSU!
I agree with franklin, if they are going to call every ticky tack foul for j, then pound him hard and get your money's worth

Stop whining about the refs for $#!+'s sake. UNLV shot 30% I agree with the fact that Fredette was not the reason UNLV shot poorly and thus lost today, nor was he responsible for SDSU's horrible play at Provo, but to ignore what Fredette is awarded almost game in and game out, particularly with his working of the refs (watch how often he works the referees during breaks in a game) and lunging into players to get the call,is to live in denial. It's to make a charade of the entire game. If you enjoy basketball games where on star player gets awarded calls/free throws because someone looked at him cross-eyed,then I've met my first WWF fan. I can't wait to see him try any of his $#!+ in the NBA.

What does UNLV shooting 30% have to do about the refs giving j every call?...Nothing Complaining about basketball officiating falls somewhere between blaming equipment and the alignment of the planets on the excuses list. Blaming officials is just that. An excuse. Excuses are for losers. It is the mentality of a loser to assign blame for every little shortcoming. And Jimmer for that matter. It's just standard player hating. He gets just as many calls as any other player. Compare the way our guys go to rim compared to Fredette. Our guys are contorting and finessing their bodies away from contact while bricking layups while some players like Fredette initiate contact and go to the basket strong.

Some of those BYU players look like they're in their mid 20's (or more). And in Hartsock's case, around the mid-30s or even 40s.

What an incredibly inane post. You're actually comparing inanimate objects with what fallible human beings can do that can in effect determine the outcome of a play;the tempo,or the outcome of a game??? ...Sit down.Let me take a couple of minutes and tell you about this kid named Armando Galarraga and what Jim Joyce did to him...(sigh).

You just have to understand that Fredette plays in a sphere. It lets fouls in, but it doesn't let fouls out. Hang in there, Matt

Actually, Galarraga is a sterling example of somebody who was clearly wronged (unlike those who are obsessed with Fredette and his percieved calls) and had the attitude of a winner. What happened after Galarraga was clearly jobbed by Joyce's blown call? Did he meltdown like Milton Bradely? Did he mope around talking into any microphone about how bad the MLB umping is? Did he feel sorry for himself and hold a grudge? No. The athlete manned up, realized that there was nothing he could do with the outcome after it happened, and even had the stones to look the guy in eye less than 48 hours later and not bitch about a thing. Galarraga could have easily let his season go into the tank and let a crybaby attitude take over. Instead, the guy moved on and put together a handful of good solid starts the rest of the season. The born loser, like Uncle Rico, never passes up an opportunity to blame past slights for current shortcomings. To the born loser, the whole world is conspiring against him and he capitulates because of that. The born loser is always short on performance but long on explanations. Bad officiating and decisions by others is the #1 excuse for the born loser.

Bad officiating and decisions by others is the #1 excuse for the born loser. Nice dodge there. You've got your little tangents down. My response was not to highlight Galarraga's commendable post response and behavior to losing a perfect game on a horrible call, but to illustrate to you that those in charge of umpiring or refereeing games are human, and like every other human, are prone to human fallibilities AND THUS MAKE MISTAKES,such as giving the "star" the call when it isn't remotely merited;if not committing the most egregious of errors and mistakes that can take the wind out of an opposing team's momentum, and worse, cost them a game due to a blown call(s). Would Galarraga have been a "born loser" if he had gone ballistic? No.And who would blame him if he had gone postal? Are his teammates and hometown fans who disagreed with the call "born losers" because they thought the call should be overturned? No. Are the millions of baseball fans who saw that play on ESPN that night "born losers" because they disagreed with the ump's call? No. Would Galarraga require a "long explanation" to make his point? No. Did some of the calls and non-calls of this weekend's SuperBowl not merit discussion? No. Are NBA and college coaches who disagree with officials "born losers"? No. Are referees whose calls are overturned by another ref "born losers"? No. Are the posters both in and out of this thread who witness and complain about Fredette benefiting from calls that no one else on the floor gets "born losers"? No.No.And NO! ...Should I go on? If you want to exist in a bubble where all you have to do is close your eyes and plug your ears to a reality you are unable to see or can't accept, that's up to you,but don't imply or outright state that anyone who dissects, critiques,or complains about a very HUMAN element of the game of basketball is a "born loser".I would submit that one who never questions authority -- yep, even within the realm of a basketball game -- is more of a born loser than those who do. ...Just what perfect world do you hail from? I want to visit that world;a world where the star of the game is there on his or hers ability and talent, and not because he is the recipient of outrageous (ticky-tack) calls benefiting him.

Just what perfect world do you hail from? I want to visit that world;a world where the star of the game is there on his or hers ability and talent, and not because he is the recipient of outrageous (ticky-tack) calls benefiting him. I'm not saying officiating is perfect. You are right in that there is error in officiating. Flaws in officiating are a guarantee. Flaws are an intrinsic part of the game. There will be bad calls tonight at the SDSU/Utah game. I'm going to yell at the ref when the bad call goes against us and snicker when the bad call goes against Utah. I won't be talking about the officiating tomorrow. There is a difference between acknowledging that sports will always have an element of error and constantly harping on the theory that bad officiating tilts the world on its axis against the Aztecs. Jimmer Fredette is a damn good college player. He is not in the national conversation about player of the year because the refs gift him ticky tack calls and pat him on the ass. I know the guy plays for a rival team and we shouldn't like him. I don't like him because he plays for a rival. I'm not going to come up with a bunch of heap of perch excuses for why I don't like him. The reason why people are coming up with a bunch of petulant excuses to hate Jimmer and deride BYU's success is because it is my belief that most SDSU fans are afraid of BYU and Fredette. I have no idea why. I don't like the guy and I hope we beat the son of a gun. If the Aztecs don't beat BYU on the 26th, it won't be because of the refs. Finally, consider these two questions in a honest manner. 1. If the blown replay call would have had the roles reversed, where SDSU benefited from an employee in the booth and went on to win the game, would Aztec fans acted in the same manner and demand that Weber and Sterk forefit the game? - My answer: NO. We SDSU fans would have justified it in a bunch of neat ways that would have made us feel better about ourselves. 2. If Kawhi or Malcolm or D.J. were putting up the numbers in the same style that Fredette has, would you be bitching about our guys getting "superstar" treatment and ticky tack fouls? How would we react to other fans saying "The only way to stop D.J. is to hammer the guy and put him on his ass". - My answer: Aztec fans would be crying bloody murder. [sic]

1611Luginbill: You've sized me up all wrong.Although the Aztecs are my team,I am not looking at this through a favorable, partisan POV,as much as I am a practical, just one.I am just as against Fredette being awarded a cheap ticky-tack foul against New Mexico,UCLA,or UNLV,et all,as I am him being awarded one against the Aztecs, and NO I have never been one to claim that Aztec misfortunes are due via bad officiating or that we're cursed in that way.I'm against one guy who gets favorable calls that no one else seemingly gets night in and night out.I've watched enough professional and college sports to realize after all this time that the star is going to get the call, and there is nothing that we as fans can do about it.I accepted it a long time ago,but it doesn't mean I agree with it or have to hide my distaste for it. I disagreed with it when Jordan was getting the cheap call;I disagree when Kobe whines and gets a gift by simply moving toward the basket, and I certainly disagree with Fredette being awarded a trip to the foul line on a phantom ticky-tack foul, particularly when it is awarded after it was Fredette who lunged INTO the defensive player guarding him.I'm against FREDETTE being awarded gifts.I NEVER said his great play was due to being the recipient of bad calls, but I'll argue that a good seven to ten points are awarded to him per game simply due to the favorable calls he gets. Those points can be a difference maker. And,yes,if Leonard,or Thomas, were getting calls they didn't deserve,I'd say the same thing.I would not deem them worth watching if I knew they were being "helped along" game by game as Fredette is.If it's too far gone,as I feel Fredette's case is,it is no longer basketball,it's a charade, with the true talent and ability of the player always left for debate due to those "gifts".The blown replay call? Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'd understand possibly having to forfeit and I'd accept it. I don't want to be rewarded via cheating or the perception it might cast. This is the crux of my stance -- I don't care for cheating.Win on your abilities and talents;not via replay booth shenanigans or gifted foul calls. ...If the Aztecs don't beat BYU on the 26th, it won't be because of the refs. What? Not likely to happen, but how the F*** do you know this with such certainty? Just what la-la world do you live in? If the Aztecs are healthy, rested, and primed, I think payback will play a role and they'll blow BYU out,but let's say I'm wrong and it's a nail biter down to the end.How can you possibly make a statement like that unless you do see referees as inanimate objects and not part of the game? One who truly follows sports would never state anything like this.
