ttt
Great blog post!
My Aztec adventure began in 1971 when football was in its heyday and basketball was pretty entertaining. Volleyball won a national title.
Being an Aztec fan was great for many years. Maybe that's why during the darkest of seasons I remain optimistic.
A very long time ago, Aztec football's promotional slogan was "Return to Glory." Maybe that slogan was premature but is finally becoming true.
Our next promotional mantra can be "I Believe That We Will Win!"

And I thought I was the only one who still feels the sting of those missed FG's in the Miami game...that also had the huge brawl.

Wow. Thanks so much for the kind words everyone. The power of social media never ceases to amaze me. Even if we stole it from Utah State, the "I Believe" chant is the property of anybody who says it and believes it. It's not a prediction or a guarantee. It's a state of mind. It's a belief. It's my new attitude. I hope it's yours too. Great turnout at Barney's Beanery in Santa Monica tonight. Hope to see more in the future. I still believe. I was at Barney's, too. Sorry I didn't meet you. Another guy who vividly remembers the Miami game. Probably had the most impact on my life as an Aztec fan.

And I thought I was the only one who still feels the sting of those missed FG's in the Miami game...that also had the huge brawl. The Miami game was the biggest Aztec football game I ever attended. "Book the Murph" was the campaign for that game. It was sold out to the top. Aztec fans brought books to donate to children for the game. The school treated it like a bowl game by giving out pins. Anyone still have theirs? The Aztecs brought their A game, except for FG kicking. I have friends who went to State but were not Aztec fans who still call a screw up in life a "T.....s!" (the name is too painful to write even though he is a cool guy and I don't wish him harm). The brawl that featured a U helmet being thrown to midfield after the scuffle was clearly won by the Aztecs. I think it was Nick Subis pounding (I think) Russell Maryland with punch after punch while holding him down on the ground with his legs after the late hit on McGwire. The moment I remember most though was when T.C. Wright was trying to break loose of a Miami tackler who had him around the legs. T.C. just kept chugging and the crowd was urging him on. Then, at about the 3 yard line, he finally broke loose of the arms that could not contain him anymore. The pure elation from the 3...2...and 1 into the end zone was the most exciting Pre-Faulk t.d. I have ever experienced. Great read and welcome to the board.
