They won't be able to announce so soon since its a state run school and we have to officailly post it first. He will be named "interim" for the time being and the officail statement won't come out for another 2-3 weeks (if he is indeed the guy).

I hope this is true. Rocky is the winningest coach in MWC history. He has tons of contacts and can replaces Borges with a good fit. Make no mistake, Rocky is a hard nosed, tough minded guy. He's not as charismatic as Hoke, but he might well be a better coach. We'll see but this could actually be a good thing. Plus I don't see Rocky leaving in two years even if he goes undefeated.

Nice for an interim, but now is not the time for a retread with no real name recognition outside of the conference, nor one who already quit on a University.

When I first heard that Hoke hired Rocky Long, my first thought was that he was the head coach in waiting. Turns out i was correct!!

Rocky did more with less (san AF) for a decade at NM. Just pray he runs the D only as his offenses were offensive.

If you guys are happy with 7-9 win seasons this is your hire I'd be happy to see 7 wins. Not sure the NCAA is moving to a 16 game schedule anytime soon.
With the top teams in the conference leaving Rocky is good enough to continually have the Aztecs in a bowl game each year. I won't hold my breath for the kind of success needed for an invite to a BCS conference. EDIT: NM, 7-9 wins, not 7-9 record.

I think you can be interim up to a year w/o a search but I may be wrong. Built in for sabbaticals.

Well Rocky Long left his alma mater for pretty much the same reason Brady Hoke left his. He is a hard nosed football coach, that can coach. He sort of reminds me of Claude Gilbert.

You people are sounding like the Michigan fans who are shiotting all over Brady Hoke.
Rocky Long is the only answer at this time. It's the only way to keep what they've built in the last two years rolling. He'll find someone who runs a pro-style offense and the Aztecs will be just fine.
Think about it: He knows the players, he knows exactly what's been done here to turn the program around, he knows what's worked and what hasn't, and he knows this conference inside and out. He knows how to stop the Air Force offense, which cannot be underestimated.

Now we need a OC. I assume Brady is taking his staff with him.
