We had success with a Pope before.
One concern on that theory on his shooting % under the "need" to take 17 shots per game...how will that percentage change when he has to exert more energy on defense than he's ever had to?

Pope did shoot well off the catch last year (39.1% from 3) but he also would be asked to run a lot of pick n roll and create and he struggled there as a shooter

Pope is a volume scorer like LeDee was but I find myself on the fence at the moment. Plus, he may not start unless he out-plays Waters.
The one thing if we do get him is that we will need to modify our stale offense with more motion to free up our shooters better. That is something I hope we do regardless.

Always a great point… we have seen it before, folks come here and shoot lower percentages

could it possibly be that SDSU might require all their guys to play defense - that might mean a lot more running - when you are doing that can mean tired legs and that usually hurts your shooting

Bringing religion back. The Aztecs could have a Pharaoh, a Pope, and Christ himself in 2024/25.
Pharaoh Compton - Freshman PF 6'8 225 (High School) Bryce Pope - Grad Transfer SG 6'3 185 (UCSD/transfer) Christ Essandoko - Sophomore C 6'11 260 (St Joe's/transfer)

Pope is visiting Maryland on April 15 & 16, per On 3 Sports. I am pretty sure he is familiar with SDSU, the campus, the courts & staff.

As far as interest, Arkansas, LSU, Xavier, Seton Hall, Colorado, CAL, VA Tech, Nevada, Dayton, Notre Dame, and Ole Miss have reached out.

Of that list, I’m thinking Cal, Stanford and us would likely be his best options for different reasons. Many of the others are random and most not performing well recently … or it seems they are less compelling than the 3 I mentioned

USC will have numerous openings but Mr Muscle usually over recruits players so be careful
would St Mary's also be an option ?

St Mary's feel way more like his Torrey Pines-UCSD background than that playing for that obnoxious, playground-ball oriented weasel.
But I'm sure the U$C $ and chance to play in the Big Ten and still live in California sounds enticing too.

Perhaps we're too critical of his defense and 31% 3 FG%? Best of luck sitting on the Muss Bus.

As a number of people have pointed out, he was more of a volume shooter than a pure shooter. He took 72 more 3's than Parrish, who took the most on our team.
