They did not have a better resume. Net OCC was 198. Net 38. KenPom 48. Also, they missed Nev and unlv on the conference schedule. By resume, I meant who they beat which is the most important thing that goes into seeding. The factors you've mentioned aren't really measuring that. * Strength of schedule only measures who you played. Sure Utah State played weaker opponents, but even despite playing less quality opponents than us, they managed to have the same number of quality wins as us. * NET Ranking and KenPom ranking are efficiency calculations. They are mostly agnostic to wins and losses. Losing to a good team by 1 could actually increase your ranking. Ours is so high because besides the loss @ New Mexico, we managed to keep all of our losses close. USU lost all their games by double digits, so their losses hurt them more than ours. But it doesn't matter if you lost by 2 or 20, a loss is a loss.

I know so called power conferences have weak teams as well but perception still counts. They had an incredibly weak out of conference schedule.

Dutcher on 760 radio today - felt the other MW teams deserved a better seed BUT he also stated the same thing the Selection group said - SOS Strength Of Schedule is key - show that you are not afraid to play tough teams - think SDSU played numerous other MM schools and most away from home as mentioned - Zags- St Mary's - Grand Canyon - BYU and long Beach
some of the MW schools have to take a better look and control of their OOC schedule -
correct many P6 schools are NOT going to play the schools with high altitude on their home court so you better schedule them on their home court

I think it’s ok to grumble a bit, to have an opinion about getting shafted a bit. I think Boise definitely got hosed. Utah State and Nevada as well.
But then you turn the page and focus on getting ready. Use it if you need as a slight to give you even more motivation… which might equate to something as simple as not staying up late playing video games, instead getting another hour or two sleep if you can.
I wish them all well, I was very impressed with every MWC team that got in. I think several can get wins this week.

We used to have issues getting tough games, but now that we are very good every season it’s worth the risk for teams like Gonzaga, Arizona, SC, etc to play us.

I see us missing uncontested 3s. I see us as being one player on offense. I see a good/great defensive team but Late in the season not good enough to close out some close games I see a team that seems to have run out in f gas multiple times including our last game. I do not blame the referees even if a few away games seemed to have horrendous refereeing. Agreed, the refs had nothing to do with us misfiring shot after shot after shot. The refs had absolutely NOTHING to do with ANY of our losses. Fans are fans and are always going to think the team they root for is getting screwed, all the while most fans wouldn't know their way through a rulebook. I HATE blaming the refs for losses, but if you don't think the uncalled muggings on LeDee all conference long played any part whatsoever, I don't know what you were watching. Even the TV commentators mentioned it at least once a game, and multiple times in the @unlv game.

#11 New Mexico is a one point favorite over #6 Clemson
#10 Nevada one point favorite over #7 Dayton
So you could say they were under seeded based on the lines.
Boise is a 2.5 dog and CSU a one point favorite, but they are in play in games so there is that...
Utah St being an eight seed and a 3.5 dog to TCU seems like a pretty tough matchup / seed. I would be bummed with that seeding after the magical season they had.
I'll be rooting for all the MWC teams. Should be a fun tournament.

It's like the committee punished the entire MWC for the Utah St OOC. If you look at BSU, CSU and UNR, they all played several P5 teams as well as strong mid-majors. I have friends who want to bag on the MWC and say they didn't deserve 6 bids, and EVERY single one looks at only Utah St's OOC.

Crazy SDSU factoid, the Aztecs played 17 of 34 games against teams in this year's NCAA Tournament. OOC = 5 1x BYU 1x Long Beach State 1x St Mary's 1x Grand Canyon 1x Gonzaga MWC = 12 2x Colorado State 2x Boise State 2x Nevada 3x Utah State 3x New Mexico NCAA = 1+ 1x UAB

I know so called power conferences have weak teams as well but perception still counts. They had an incredibly weak out of conference schedule. In Utah States defense, they had a new coach and a roster that returned zero points in offense. Sprinkle created a roster out of nothing and probably didn’t want to push a bunch of difficult early season games on his newly created team. I don’t think even think Sprinkle envisioned his team being in this position.

USU is 0-10 in their last 10 NCAA tournament games and has the worst record out of all of the schools.

Even the TV commentators mentioned it at least once a game, and multiple times in the @unlv game. Duly acknowledged. It goes both ways - LeDee and other Aztecs "get away" with the same, it's up to how the refs are calling the game. What I'm saying is if the refs are going to let a lot of physical contact happen any given game, they will do so for both teams. Do they miss some calls? Of course. Do we think they miss more calls that go against us than for us? In the heat and emotions of the game, of course we do, that's how fans react. I'm no different. Still, that doesn't mean the refs cost us any games.

Boise is going crazy over there 10 seed and spot in the play in round. They think they should have been at least a 7 seed. I completely agree, they got the shaft. They should have been a 7 or 8 seed, and we should have been a 6 seed. Getting a 5 seed with our record in Q1 games is wild, and dare I say mostly due to our performance in the tournament last year. All that being said, I think the committee looked at the MW metrics, and record against P5 conferences, and said: "Okay, we will give you the 6 tournament slots that your conferences OOC record demands, but we want you to prove that you are actually better then the PAC12 and the ACC this year." Boise State vs. Colorado, Colorado State vs. Virginia in the play-in games. Time for the MW teams to show up and prove the metrics right.

MWC objectively got hosed. There is no 2 ways around it, you can't say they should just win tourney games as a excuse for it happening. There are other teams that got beneficial seeds that have done nothing in the tourney, Mississippi State has a worse resume than Boise/CSU and haven't won a tourney game since 2008. Furthermore there is a ton of turnover year to year, what happened last year shouldn't matter. Committee did a awful job, not just towards mwc but towards other schools. Why is virginia in? Who cares if they won a title half a decade ago? That shouldn't matter

I think other teams are justified in their complaints. We finished in 5th place yet have by far the best seeding? I guess they really do value the OOC schedule difficulty but think that's a bit much. I would say they value the OOC games but more the net. Each seed is consistent or close to consistent with their net ranking. The net does not penalize close losses against good teams. I personally think that great teams find ways to win close games. However, the net is the current ranking system in favor by selection committee and it is an improvement on RPI. Because the Aztec conference losses, except NM, were close against good teams usually away (Boise home loss excepted) they did not negatively impact our net much. Net shows a #5, committee gave us a #5. I was expecting a #6 due to the number of losses. Go aztecs Then why is New Mexico a 11 seed with a 22 net? There was no consistency into the process

That kind of thing definitely has some skill to it but also significant luck and is not sustainable. They are imo the 6th best team in the league
