Why not sit Reese for the WYO game? That would give him nine days to rest that banged-up ankle.

He said his ankle is back to 100%. Resting him won't likely get his shooting groove back.

He needs to get more aggressive with his shot too. We clearly don't have a consistent #2 scorer, and Waters should fill that role.

My guess is he is not 100% but pretty close. If he is not 100% resting him could make sense.
On a side note, was he the one primarily guarding Rice yesterday? Rice was 1-8 and held to 4 points. I recall him guarding Lucas of Nevada last week and Lucas was way below his average too.
He has the size and length to be an elite defender. We need his offense, but his defensive effort could be slowing his offense a little too.
Either way, he is key to our team having success.

Would hope that the Coaches - trainers and Waters can make the best decision on how much Waters plays against the Cowboys -
As it turns out the Home games are quite important - Aztecs have to win every home game they go down further in the ratings if they lose at home then a loss on the road to a quality team
Waters as noted is the best 3 point shooter and guy that can create his own shot . Need the 15 points a game from him and the defense - he has the size to defend the taller guards the team faces .
Had hopes that Micah Parrish could be a consistent scorer but he is up and down - putting more pressure on Waters to assist Ledee - so there is a quality outlet for Ledee
SDSU has another quick turn around for the Cowboys game - then do get a week to prep for another important road game at CSU - Where Waters will definitely be needed

Have you notice since the JAM center was built our program has taken off exponentially in the NCAA tournament. Just imagine what a state of an art weight training and trainers office would do to our program.

I'd think we ride him. Our early sucess really depended on him shooting, to take pressure off LeDee

Interesting to note that a good portion of the JAM center was supported by Non Aztec group of the business community

Just imagine what a state of an art weight training and trainers office would do to our program. BINGO! Weight Training and Conditioning is the next step for this program to take another step up into Big Boy level, followed by Nutritional aspect of the program ( training table) It's not about having a state of the art facilities, it about having a solid year around program and the players buying into it " All Year long". The thing I am saying is that at the end of the day the games and practice are a couple hours a day and Conditioning and Nutrition is everyday ALL day and are these players staying committed year around looking to improve everyday.

agree
there are numerous P6 schools that have a high quality Basketball Practice facilities and still do not have a good team
Besides the facility - you do need players and coaches that are dedicated to using them as a team and individually - people that buy into the program and do a lot of practicing on their own between the usual practice time
But do have to say a BIG THANK YOU for the JAM group that did see the need for the facility for SDSU to be competitive and all those who contributed to the JAM facility

Myles Bryd is often a younger player that has realized that it is the work you put in and studying of film really helps
There is also a prime example of Ledee - who has been willing to red shirt - his first season at SDSU - then work hard as a reserve last season - then now one of the best players inn the MW and possibly the NCAA . This is Ledee's first year as a starter .
Would guess that being a transfer into SDSU there is a lot to learn for the defense so Waters is still learning each game . Also making sure he fits into his role as a starter and key player during crunch time .
The younger guys hopefully realize that you have to put in a good amount of time to improve their game and do what is needed by the team for the team to be successful - learn their role and be as helpful as possible on both ends of the court .
Another person who can assist them as playing the role needed for the team is AG - who has worked a lot with his friend Jay Pal - AG worked like crazy to do a lot of the tough gritty work and it paid off for him and the team
Yes have realized for years of the value of the JAM center and the people who made it happen

another need to win home game for the Aztecs against a coach who loves to come up with various schemes to try win against a better team Since you brought up Wyoming, a reunion of sorts for one of our assistants.... In 2010, his moment arrived. Wyoming was playing SDSU and Luster hit a 3-point shot with 4.9 seconds remaining to give the Cowboys the lead in a game they eventually won. He approached the SDSU bench after the shot and chided the Aztecs that they should have recruited him.
Eleven years later, San Diego State coach Brian Dutcher still remembered the shot when he hired Luster.
“You’re lucky I hired you, JayDee, after all that crap you talked,” Dutcher said, joking.cronkitenews.azpbs.org/2023/04/03/jaydee-luster-credits-arizona-former-wildcats-coach-sean-miller/

Over the 7 conference games thus far, Waters is shooting 34% from the field, 30% from three, and 67% from the line.
Tonight Waters was almost a non-factor: 6 points, 0-3 from three, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 free throws, 1 personal foul.
