Roomer has it that the Padres are about to sign Cano. It shouldn't cost them much--at least $$ wise.

Cano is a probable HOF’er, he would be an effective late inning pinch hitter and occasional starter. On the other hand, The Mets told him to kick rocks……24 mil is a lot of money for 39 year old infielder.

True, but I can't imagine the Padres would be paying Cano anything but the pro-rated major league minimum salary, while the Met$ would be picking up the rest.

The Mets are responsible for the 37.5 million owed to him. The Padres get him for the minimum on a prorated basis.

Solid move. I’m not convinced he’s washed.

It took signing Cano to get Lamet sent to El Paso.

It's a move that I don't think we'll lament.

Hopefully he’s learned his lesson with the PEDs - or - Third time’s a charm…

Looks like he'll fit right in with Voit, as the Padres' designated non-hitters.

Professional hitters are paid to hit baseballs into the field of play occasionally. Lucky the Padres only have to pay this one the minimum … if he's still on the roster come September, I'll be surprised - hopefully pleasantly.

He'll probably have to hit the Nugenix trail with Frank Thomas.
He's showed can still play - even if can't catch up to many pitches these days - but if he doesn't want to be a minor leaguer, his options are pretty slim. His offensive numbers this year were pathetic. Best to take the hints and just fade into retirement.
And speaking of a "Big Hurt", the Bucs put one on the Doggers this week by sweeping them. With the Cards doing the same to the Padres it prevented the Padres from dropping like a rock in the standings. Unfortunately, with the offensive mess they've got right now - and the teams they're about to play - it can still easily happen.
At least the Padres didn't dick around for months hemming and hawing about the decision to let him go. 3 for 33 just isn't really going to help anyone. May be the end of the line. Tough luck, but he's still got some guaranteed serious money coming his way that none of us would likely see in a lifetime, and all just for watching from now on.

Looks like nobody else was really interested in picking up Robby, so he opted to drop down to the minors and stay with the Padres. Interesting development. Maybe he gets a 39th wind … www.elpasotimes.com/story/sports/2022/06/10/former-all-star-robinson-cano-play-el-paso-chihuahuas/7588231001/Not much to hate here. He either gets something going for himself in El Paso or he gets cut (again). If he's got World Series on his mind - and what baseball player doesn't - then he's got ample motivation to fix his swing and get himself back to San Diego later this summer.

Could be a blessing in disguise with some of the young guys down there. Presence in the clubhouse.

Hopefully, he's put the PEDs behind him. Though having just read through Ken Caminiti's hellish journey, this is exactly the kind of situation that would cause someone with a predilection to fall. Trying to get back to the majors, trying to prove that you've still got gas in the tank. Having a group pulling for you - and it seems like he's found some strong support from the Padres team - will help.
Sometimes a desire to "just be better" and "get clean" gets tossed out the window as soon as the first setbacks occur. For Cano's sake, I hope not. Doesn't seem like Robby has all the other sketchy things going on that led to Caminiti's multiple regressions, but who really knows. The statistics certainly aren't his best friend right now.
