Yeah I don't think we should be looking for bats to upgrade at the deadline. Either make no moves, sell Snell/Hader if we are out of it by the deadline, or pick up 1-2 arms if we are in it. I have confidence that the offense is on the upswing, and regardless of any trade, we are going to be very dependent on Tatis/Machado/Soto/Bogaerts to produce.

I agree, and if we can get some kind of consistent production out of Cronenworth and Grisham going forward, that just may catapult us into the playoffs. I'm REALLY encouraged by how we finished the first half of the season. I say we stay legitimately in the hunt, down to the wire. Let's goooooo!!!

Hated to see someone with his experience and obvious presence in the clubhouse suddenly disappear, but I think parting with Nelson Cruz created some much needed flexibility with bench options to help keep the aforementioned four-cylinder engine fresh - or at least give them some rest time - during crunch time in September. But I think they need to do the same for the pitching staff, and that would not include saying sayonara to Snell or Hader.
Don't know how they'll add some insurance arms this month, but they need to be willing to do so. Little has been said about Wacha's condition, and Lugo's only once pitched as a starter like he has this season, and that was 7 years ago. The most he's pitched (101 inn) was back then as well. He's more than 60% of the way to that mark right now. So he'll soon be entering some interesting territory. Eight more 5 inning starts will hit that mar, and that only gets him to sometime in August or early September. Eventually, someone - like him- is going to need some downtime - and if the pitching staff falls apart just as the hitting machine starts raking again, it will be SOOOOO San Diego. Bullpen games can't be something they need to resort to in a WC race.

Would anticipate him making his next start after the rotation is shuffled. Lugo will eventually move to the bullpen as his innings mount. They planned for this, so it's not a surprise. Bullpen games would actually be a good thing.

Jake has turned it around somewhat. He's hitting around 327 for the month of August including his 2 at bats so far tonight. Keeping the detractors at bay, for now.

Hurt enough to leave the game after HBP… will he make a sudden recovery or remain in the groan zone today?
UPDATE: Broke the wrist. On the IL. With 5 weeks left, he likely won't be back.
Time for some experimentation. Hopefully they can do better than Cooper.

Another one bites the dust. If this team didn't have bad luck, it'd have no luck at all…
