After playing last night's game 100°F+ heat and hitting one out, he comes back to start tonight - almost just as hot - and cranks another HR while drives in 3 runs so far on several hits. He's another power hitter that the Pads need. I really like him. Plus, he's got exceptional speed for a catcher. I'm liking him a little more than Nola in that respect, but Nola still has quite an edge behind the plate. Probably why they're getting Even Steven on the starts right now.

The most encouraging thing about Alfaro is the Padres have tweaked his swing a bit and the result is a sizable decrease in his groundball rate.

Alfaro gritted it out tonight, tried to stretch a double into a triple and didn't make it. K'd a few times … But at the end of the night, he came through with the game winner.

He's a gamer. He maybe doesn't have Nola's experiences behind the plate yet, but there's only one way he's going to get those … and he's slashing at .285/.323/.800 which is far superior to Nola's numbers right now ( .226/.304/.601 ). Until things change for him at the plate, there's no reason for him not to be catching most of the games - or if he needs some rest, slot him in at DH.
