He'd better get a grip on something, somewhere, and soon. We're less than two weeks from being halfway through the season. Already… Despite his adjustments to a new league and opponents (or a lack of them), his 5.72 ERA sure is not what he was brought in for. I know we sent Weathers down so that he can start in AAA, but I'll take Weathers on a short pitch count over Snell. Let Snell figure out how to grip the ball without foreign substances at AAA. The bottom line is that he can't locate his pitches. He sure can't right now, but he's shown that he can in the recent past. It's like he just completely lost the plate about a month ago. Hopefully he finds it again. Soon…

I guess with Lamet going deeper into games, there's less chance for Weathers to come in to pitch 3 or 4 innings on a regular basis, so I get that they want him to keep up the pace with live hitting in game situations somewhere - even if it is in AAA.
I'd read somewhere that the Padres had him on about a 100 inning leash this year. According to MLB, he's at 47 1/3 innings in 14 games so far, so he could still pitch at least the same amount in AAA if they watch the pitch count and don't expect to see him back in the bigs this season. I'd hope he was at least available for post-season, though. Lotta things (both good and bad) can happen by then… the team can always use a good, solid arm. (and someone in the #9 spot who can hit!)

I knew Snell had a stark contrast in his home v. away splits, but I had no idea how drastic until today:
Home: 1.65 ERA/0.98 WHIP Away: 10.36 ERA/2.23 WHIP
Crazy. Let's hope he keeps the home stats alive tonight and then finally figures it out on the road.

Talk about home cookin'… he just lowered both his home ERA and WHiP a little further.

Snell comes through tonight. Got pretty close to coughing it up with Albert at the plate, but he got some lucky strike calls before watching Pujols swing away for strike three to end the inning.
Couldn't have done much better, a Great Outing.
Now let's hope the BP can hold it and the Padres maybe score a few insurance runs - just in case they BP chokes.

Snell is ill, and scratched from tonight's start. Stammen is starting in his place. Might want to bring Weathers back up.
EDIT: The last start for Weathers was last Thursday, 6/24. He is scheduled to start tonight in El Paso, so we will soon see what happens.

If Stammen & Crismatt can give us 5 combined we'll be in good shape.

His last outing was horrendous. He gad been doing very well before that though.

And if Snell doesn't go on Thursday (as right now the starter is TBA)? I see Paddack listed as the starter for Thursday, at least prior to today, which makes sense. Friday is the ??, which could involve bringing back Weathers (then Darvish/Snell) or going with Snell (then Darvish/Weathers)?

This time of year, weather (not Weathers) is always a factor back east. Tonight's game was late because of stormy weather. The Weather Service predicts 70%-80% probability of precipitation tomorrow and 90% on Thursday. Friday in Philly, there's a 70% probability of precipitation … So the Padres might see some off days that they weren't necessarily looking for…

At least until it was recently updated to show Weathers as the starter. As El Paso goes to the BP game tonight, as Weathers was pulled from his start. And El Paso wins their BP game 2-1.
