Is he a grad, or just hoping they change the transfer rule?

UAB F Makhtar Gueye looks good on film until you look at the numbers. Wrong direction for field goal %. Would prefer others.

Heard from Mississippi State, Georgia, San Diego State, New Mexico, Miami, Georgetown, Georgia State, Fairfield, Siena, East Carolina, Hawaii, UC Davis, Boise State, Virginia Tech and Southern Illinois.
He plans on narrowing down his list of schools to three or four, “in a week,” he said.

Does anyone know if he's a GTR or a 2-for-1 banking on the rule change? Can't find anywhere whether he sat his 1st year and/or graduated in 3 years?
If he's not a GTR he has no value without the 1 time exemption.

Marten has good hands, finishes with both hands and is the rare 2 year of eligibility grad transfer

ESPN lists him among the GTRs, while a tweet has him as a sit 1 play 2. If the transfer rules change, its irrelevant, but would he be willing to come off the bench for 2 years?

This from Backing the Pack (NC State) Blog 4-12-2020 Gueye has heard from NC State, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Miami, and San Diego State, per Rivals’ Corey Evans. Gueye just finished up his junior season with the Blazers, but I’m not sure if he’s the regular ol’ sit-one-play-one type or a grad transfer. He averaged about 7 points and 5 boards for the Blazers in 2020, slumping a bit after an excellent sophomore campaign. His biggest problem is in his desire to expand his game beyond the arc: for his career, he’s 36-138 (26.1%), and shot just 17-59 (28.8%) this season. He’s a good rebounder at both ends and he can block some shots and if he cuts down on those threes, I figure he can be a solid secondary option at the high-major level. www.backingthepack.com/2020/4/11/21217932/makhtar-gueye-transfer-uab-nc-state-basketball-recruiting

This from 24/7 ECU sports blog 4-13-2020
UAB forward Makhtar Gueye has heard from ECU’s coaching staff, according to multiple reports. The 6-foot-10 forward has also been offered by Virginia Tech, and NC State, Miami, Mississippi State, Georgetown, San Diego State, New Mexico, Boise State and others have also reached out. Gueye is expected to quickly narrow down his list in the next week or so.

Despite being the tallest player on UAB, a lot of his offensive touches begin from behind the arc. He's 6'10, but can handle as well as a wing. Doesn't post up as much as a traditional big man. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T8nNfpK-r4www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0lkx3HEU1obarttorvik.com/team.php?team=UABShooting percentages are below average from a 6'10 guy, but that's due to how he played. * Only 10 dunks on the season * 58% (39/67) from close range * 32%! (19/58) on "long-range" 2 point attempts. * 26% career 3P% Very similar stats to someone like Winston Shepard. Tall, athletic, good handles, can create his own shot. But not a great jump shooter.

Sounds like a McDaniels/Pope (I say that loosely, based on his body type) player who CAN'T consistently hit a shot from behind the arc. Low FG%'s scared me off, and he has increased his try's behind the arc, but only hits 1 out of 4 threes (26%). Last year I think I counted 1/3 of his total shots were from three point range. We need a strong offensive presene who plays in the paint and has a mid-range game (10-15ft) when we get pressed or zoned.

We need someone who can defend the "5" when Nate's off the floor and rebound. Scoring is a bonus, given what will be around him. As long as he's an upgrade from Joel it's a good thing, and that's not a high bar (although he's a great guy).
