I say BS. There are a lot of great players that do not play for P5 teams but stand out at a lesser level and attract the attention of the Pros to continue a career in football, if that is their motive. It just so happens that the Aztecs have seen numerous players move into the Pro ranks over the years because this level gave them an opportunity to display their talents. Admittedly it looks and sounds better to come from a P5 school but not if their program is not deemed one of the better ones at that point in time. One of the most important factors is the fit for the team and the individual. What doesn't make sense in this case is the appearance that Sears might have been more comfortable for a Rocky type offense than what Hoke will use. Anyone knowing football knows that Hoke will open up the offense more but to what degree will be dependent on the talent available on the TEAM, all facets. This

Some players would rather be a small fish in a big pond than a big fish in a small pond.

would also guess he accepted the offer from the Aztecs - then waited to see what other schools would make him an offer .He will now have the Spring to look over the offers and make a decision but not be able to join a school until the summer.
Not sure the Rocky / Horton coaches was the main reason he originally took our offer - Yes Brady and the new OC will be more willing to focus on the offense and the QB but still not a guarantee .
Sears loses the opportunity to join a school and get Spring football practices - helpful when going to a new school- but guess that was not good enough reason for him to stay .
As with many young guys they do see the P5 schools as better opportunities for them -
He made his Decision so maybe we move on to what other QB's we have on the squad and possible grad transfers

Seems like the nfl draft identifies a disproportionate number of QBs as first round picks that are not coming from P5 schools every year. If you can play, they find you in UT, N DAK, WY, NV etc.
Non P5 looks like a risk worth taking, IMO.

Did I miss something? The tweet and articles in the OP said his was visiting, not that he'd committed to Northwestern.

If he's not coming to SDSU, why do "we" seem to care so much?

I don't get how it benefits him to not be in early and to miss spring camps. He'll be behind and might now not be a starter. Its hard to get in only during the summer as a QB and be ready for the start of the season.

If he's not coming to SDSU, why do "we" seem to care so much? My post was just to clear the air about a USC QB who, for a time, was going to be part of our program. If you don't care for this discussion thread you DO have the option to ignore it. Also, who's this "WE" you're talking about? Oldie Out

Coach Hoke has said he will look at the transfer list for a possible QB to join the team. Sears and a number of others are still out there so there is always a possibility for him here even though it appears slim. That is why he is still being talked about.

1. Big 10 Football 2. Starting Big 10 QB (potentially) 3. Northwestern is a very highly regarded academic institution (much much higher than SDSU) 4. Offensive scheme that he feels more comfortable with than other schools he's looked into? The only baffling part is that you are baffled. 1. Check 2. He is entering a tough spot to try and win the job, I am sure he believes in himself, but so does Hunter, he had a much clearer path as SDSU and or other P5 programs 3. Check 4. The NU scheme is very much “yuck” in the same way the schemes was at State under Horton, when you watch NU you wonder exactly what they are trying to do on offense. Not baffling, but a curious decision www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/northwestern-adds-ex-indiana-qb-peyton-ramsey-to-boost-struggling-offense/ar-BB10XAVE?ocid=spartandhp
