Look at the gap between 4 and 2. Really not much separating those 3.

Victim list improves: Creighton now at 15, Iowa 20 and BYU 23. Better than Gonzaga's list.

Us and Gonzaga have both beaten 3 Top 25 teams now:
Oregon @ #14 BYU @ #23 Arizona @ #24
Creighton @ #15 Iowa @ #20 BYU @ #23
Except we beat BYU on the road. Oh, and BTFW, they LOST to #28 Michigan. By 18!!!!!!!!!

At some point, the ratings become moot. You toss up the ball for March Madness, and the cream rises. Until then, it's all perception. #4 in the country in mid-February is just fine.

But it will be interesting to see the polls next Monday, after the Baylor/Kansas game this Saturday. As long as we take care of business, will we move up to #3?

Unless it's a complete blowout one way or the other, I don't think you can really punish a team for losing in that kind of game involving 2 of the top 3 ranked teams. I suspect it will be a tight ballgame and the voters will keep the status quo next Monday.

If Kansas narrowly beats Baylor, I could see Baylor dropping to 3 and us staying at 4. If Baylor beats Kansas we would move up.

Lost a little ground to Kansas in the Coaches Poll, too.

Baylor @ Kansas has instant classic written all over it. I think it will be a great measuring stick for the Aztecs, I.e. Baylor very much reflects the Aztecs and Kansas has a giant post player. Great game for scouting both teams.

If Gonzaga doesn't get upset they will get the West #1 seed and have an easier path than us getting through the East with a Duke #2 seed.
Iit could be better for us if we lost 1 and got the 2 seed in the west. Staples would be like home games.

Only 63 of the 65 ballots were submitted this week. Last week, only 64 of the 65 ballots were submitted. I sure hope AP evaluates each voter at the end of the season and pull the voting rights from whoever missed on submitting a ballot, especially if done multiple times.

I guess we have to win on April 6th--perhaps then the polls will have us at #1.

No matter which team ahead of the Aztecs might lose, they will remain #4. That's just how this whole thing rolls.
And really, none of this will matter one bit if they're not 1, 2, 3 or 4 come Final Four..

NOW...if Kansas beats Baylor, I can maybe see them swapping spots (#1 & #3). But, I would think they would drop a few spots behind us and Duke.
