As much as I want next year to rhyme with this one, Flynn needs to declare.

As much as I want him back, I wouldn’t want what happened to Quetta happen to Flynn next year. Quetta has a year or two to reestablish himself. Flynn would not. If the money is there Mal, away you go and with our thanks.

Hope he returns and once again leads us to the promised land . Hope he benefits by getting even stronger and is drafted high un the first round.

No way he's automatically going pro after this season. Let's wait and see what happens next month. If we take the natty, then he should go. Right now I think he's projected in the second round, so he should think about staying. i remember the same sentiment with Kawhi and JF from the fanbase. we never really got to say goodbye. True, but I also remember hearing this about Pope since his freshman year. After 4 years, still not a draft pick. Not saying Flynn is Pope, but I do not see Flynn as a likely first rounder like Jaden McD. If you are a later 2nd round pick then it is not clear that you should go pro with some eligibility left. I sure hope he is back but I will miss Wetzel next year.

After watching his play today, I firmly believe that Flynn will now be a projected first rounder. He is solid and deserves to get paid now. It's always sad to not honor our undergraduates who leave before their senior year. I wish we could honor them on senior night somehow.

Malachi Flynn will never be a first rounder whether or not he leaves this year or next. No matter how good he is in college, because of his lack of size and athleticism he won’t go in the first round. There is no incentive for him to leave this year. Don’t get me wrong, I still think he can have a solid nba career, but being a first rounder is something he won’t be. There’s a reason Myles Powell from Seton Hall, Markus Howard from Marquette, Payton Pritchard from Oregon, Cassius Winston from Michigan State are still in college. In their junior years, Powell averaged 23 pts, 4 reb and 3 ast, Howard averaged 25, 4 and 4, Pritchard averaged 13, 4 and 5, Winston averaged 19, 3 and 8. Winston and Howard were both 2nd team all Americans, but none of these guys were very much on nba team’s radars. And they are still either projected late 2nd rounders or even undrafted. Nba teams no longer, especially in the first round, draft purely on a guy’s college production. A team would much rather take a raw 6’8 freak athlete with no skill over a 6’1 point who is already near his ceiling as a player. It just is what it is. The only way I see Malachi leaving after this year is if he is just done with classes in college 😂. Alston from Boise has a better chance at being drafted than Malachi.

Like everyone else, I’m going to miss Yanni and KJ next season. I also worry about losing Malachi and coach Acker (IMO, a very desirable prospect for a head coaching position).
I think the best way to deal with this is to copy how the team is approaching the season. Don’t look ahead - and only concentrate on winning the next game.

If Flynn were 6’4” or 6’5”, he’d be all done. At what is likely officially 6 ft even, more questionable.
The good news is it will all play out so this is just premature speculation. That’s never a good thing

I try to take things as they come. The issue of who stays, who goes, who gets plucked off the coaching staff, etc. is something to start thinking about in April. For now, I am going to enjoy this TEAM.
Honestly, after the season is over my primary concern will be Coach Dutcher. He is the captain of the ship and it his job to replace players and coaches who move on for whatever reason. I think this season, his crucial 3rd year at the helm, is indication that he is a nimble recruiter of both players and coaches. As long as Coach Dutcher is here leading the program, I think we will be a solid top 25 type of program. In Dutch I trust! Go Aztecs!

With all that said, if he isn't going to be a 1st rounder this year nor next year, then it would be best for him to leave this year. From what you are saying, his stock isn't going to rise, so what is he gaining back staying back that he couldn't gain by going pro? He's already projected to get drafted in the 2nd. He'd be losing out on a lot of money and risking injury if he comes back. And Boise's Alston has a better chance at getting drafted? lol no. So, you are saying Malachi isn't going to get drafted at all? lol.

Note my use of the work "automatically." He might go, but once he gets into the nitty-gritty of the draft process, he might decide it's best to stay one more year. If he's likely to get big, guaranteed money, then he goes with our best wishes. We'll see.
