Looks like No. 1 Baylor has an easy week, at Kansas State Monday night and home vs Oklahoma State on Saturday. K-State could give them a run but Baylor should take both.
No. 2 Gonzaga has a gimme at home vs Loyola-Marymount Thursday but then a huge roadie at St Mary's Saturday night. Pulling for the Gaels big-time in that one.
No. 3 Kansas hosts Texas Monday night, which shouldn't be easy, but you'd expect them to hold serve at home. Saturday they travel to TCU, which shouldn't be too difficult.
Where things get interesting is the following week when both Baylor and Kansas have to play West Virginia, the Bears at home and Jayhawks on the road. Both BU and KU also have to play Oklahoma, which is improving. The Bears and Jayhawks play each other in Wacko on Saturday the 22nd.

Gonzaga has two games left with St. Mary's and they're @ BYU on the 22nd.
Their best player, Tillie, sprained his L ankle against Santa Clara and missed the San Francisco game that was a near-loss for Gonzaga. It's the same ankle that he hurt right before the draft that made him decide to return to school and he also hurt it in December. Without him they used a 6-man rotation. They're really good but not very deep.
I think if we win out, Gonzaga won't and we'll get that precious West #1 seed.

He just moved Gonzaga over as No.1 in the East.

I still got a whole page of tickets to use up. So there's plenty of time for the basketball gods to intervene on many levels and for many teams... but being this far into the season, it sure seems like a great time to be an AZTEC FAN!

When I saw Gonzaga early in the year the one thing I noticed is that they are not very deep.

St. Mary's has always played the 'Zags tough. Plus they have a real incentive to beat them since they're fighting to be at large selection.

Was just watching the ESPN pre-game show with Seth Greenberg, et. al.
Everyone agreed that Baylor was a firm No. 1 and the team to beat in the Tourney. Then one of the guys waxed poetic about Dayton. Greenberg then talked up SDSU and said we're definitely a Final Four/Nat. Champ. caliber team. Ran clips of SDSU while he talked. Very cool.

Good thing the Flyboys are likely to be in a protected bracket. Don't want to face them too early. And maybe we can stop complaining about the A-10 Challenge now.

When was the last time we even talked about being a #1 seed? Certainly not in my lifetime!

When was the last time we even talked about being a #1 seed? Certainly not in my lifetime! The morning of 1/26/11, right before losing to BYU at Viejas.

They are tall & lanky, play good defense and rebound well, and like us can beat almost anyone. If, they are in our bracket it could be trouble if we play them.

Big week for the Big 12 teams ranked ahead of us. Baylor at Texas tonight, Kansas at West Virginia Wednesday.
Gonzaga is at Pepperdine on Saturday.

T-Rank odds to win this week:
KU:
52% vs WVU 92% vs OU
Baylor:
75% vs Texas 71% vs WVU
Gonzaga:
90% vs Pepperdine
----
Multiplying those odds together gives just a 23% chance of all those teams winning all those games, or a 77% chance someone drops at least one game.
Additionally, SDSU has a 96% and 81% chance to win their two games, or a 78% chance to win both.
Unfortunately, it's Baylor that has the greatest chance to lose, and I'm not sure we even pass them with a loss.I could definitely see it being #1 Gonzaga/#2 Baylor/#3 Kansas/#4 SDSU in the case that Baylor loses a close one.

Agreed, Baylor losing at West Virginia would only drop them to #2 in the rankings. But better another loss than a win, because the following week Baylor and Kansas play each other. If Baylor loses to WV, then we likely pass the loser of that game. Also Gonzaga plays at BYU that week too, while we only have 1 game at home against UNLV.

Baylor, 22-16 over TX at the half.
Texas 0-11 over final 3 min of the half. Ugh

I don't really care all that much about Kansas and Baylor in that it doesn't impact us that much; moving up in the rankings is fun, but March is what matters.
Currently, we are a #1 seed and not playing in the West region, Baylor could lose their next 5 games and we'd still be a #1 seed not playing in the West. Going from New York to Houston or Indy is only a slight improvement; what matters is seeding and being in LA. Thats why I'm looking at Gonzaga, but also Duke and Louisville. Those two ACC teams got enough juice in the schedule that even if we win out, they could leap frog us and land the 1 seed in the east (letting us come closer to home).

Or we drop the semifinal on purpose and give ourselves a trip to the west regional as a 2 seed if it seems necessary at that point
