I see that the grossly unethical behavior that got a prior thread locked has reared its ugly head again. Nathan Mensah's medical condition is private and if you were too obtuse to understand this previously, it was made CRYSTAL CLEAR on Dutch's show tonight. When Nathan decides to make it public is his business alone, not yours. Until then, take your demonstrated lack of ethics, decency, empathy and class off this board and delete your posts. You should be ashamed of yourselves. From what I can tell most people don’t care if we find out his medical history. It’s the fact that at least until tonight (I only heard what Dutcher said second hand) the team wasn’t acknowledging any sort of timeline (or lack of a timeline). With a simple one line sentence of “we have no timetable for return at this point” a lot of these questions that keep coming up would have been satisfied.

I thought about asking Zeigler via Twitter if he's heard anything but figured he'll publish it if and when he does. I’ve asked and he doesn’t respond. I have a feeling he knows but the team told him to keep quiet. He’s the team’s beat writer, how could he not have asked Dutcher yet? Zeigler has basically completely stopped reporting on Mensah other than to say he’s not playing in the upcoming game. I would surmise that Zeigler has indeed asked Dutch about it. And if Zeigler was told off the record with the request he not publish anything about it, then it would indicate the team and Nathan's wishes for privacy on the issue, which we all should respect. We'll know when we know, and until then, we won't. And while we wait, we'll win win win, cut down nets.

Then say that. I think people are annoyed that the team is basically acting like he’s not even on the team anymore. Listen to Dutch that is exactly what he said. He also said Nathan want to keep it private. He said that just tonight and I heard of it after the post. We hadn’t heard anything for a long time.

We're not allowed to ask the question? ? How absurd! And Dutcher said on his show tonight that Nathan was at practice today and would participate when and if he was allowed to by the doctors. That is all we deserve to know at this point! What show was this? FSSD? 1360 (checked here but didn't find anything)? Do you have a link by chance? I'd like to listen...

You should be ashamed of yourselves. Get off your high horse. Nobody has even speculated on what is actual condition is on this thread, people are just wondering if he is going to play again this season. That is a fair question. It's not really different than someone suffering a gruesome looking knee injury during a game and people wondering if maybe he tore his ACL and will be out 9 months. In fact, every player who suffers an injury has had more details released about him than Nathan has at this point. We know Joel Mensah has a sore back right now, right? We know Arop had off season hip surgery, and we know Arop injured his shoulder last month, right?? It's bizarre that Nathan's condition has been kept so secret by the team, and this board for some reason freaks out if someone wonders why. At a minimum, the team should at least state if he is out for the season or if there is a chance he could return. The details can come out at a later time.

I think this post is about “Will N.M. play this season” not, what’s his condition! Some of you self proclaimed child protection advocates need to take a break and answer the question or shut up if you don’t know.... just my $0.02

Don't understand all the pearl clutching about Mensah's medical condition. Athletes are different than private citizens, who are protected by HIPPA medical privacy codes. I'm sure most NCAA athletes sign waivers allowing coaches, publicists and administrators to talk freely about various athletic-related injuries. No one has a problem yakking about Arop's dislocated shoulder, or the knee that Mitchell had scoped in the offseason, or that Polee had a heart condition. But Mensah's blood clot? OMG! STFU! Even though every single person on this board knows what his condition is and what the general prognosis is. I'm sure if an athlete tells a coach he wants to keep the medical condition private and not turn it into a media circus, the coach, and likely the media, will respect that, which seems to be the case here. But to act like fans are violating some sort of HIPPA law by discussing the medical status of a key SDSU basketball player, well, that's a bit rich.

Wasn't this what some poster mentioned weeks ago and was blasted for having the nerve to talk about it? Anyone going to blast Zeigler with the same ferocity for REALLY speculating and to do so to everyone in San Diego?

Ugh.
Two observations:
1) A sports medicine journal study of professional athletes showed that average recovery time for a pulmonary embolism was 5.7 months. (Your mileage may vary.) 2) Risk factors include frequent air travel, cold weather/winter months, and elevation. (Thanks, MWC.)
