Iowa win is big, another Q1 victory for them. The computers really liked Creighton’s stomping of Nova yesterday, moving the Bluejays all the way up to 14 in the NET. We won’t get a shot at anymore Q1 wins unless Utah St keeps winning and we meet them in the MW tourney on a neutral floor. This stuff matters...

Iowa beats Illinois who was in 1st place in the Big 10 or 12. I don't know the names of the conferences anymore. Big win for Iowa which boosts their resume for the Big Dance and helps the Aztecs. Hear the announcers say that the Big 10 or 12 will get lots of teams to the Dance. My guess is that any team in this conference with a 500 winning percentage in conference play will get in. JMO Lunardi has all 12 B10 in his brackets.

That's why they hate it when a mid level conference team gets to the Dance it takes the place of a big $ conference team God forbid that two mid level conference teams get to the Dance from the same conference. Like the year we won the conference by 4 or 5 games and lost in the finals to Wyoming in the MW Conference Tournament. We got no invite to the Dance only to the NIT and went to the finals. We lost in the semi's to George Washington who won the NIT. By the way GW's coach was fired after the season for complaints about him abusing his players.

The b y who dats beat St. Mary's today when their 30 year old balding, red headed point guard hit a 3 ball in the last 9 seconds.

It is possible that we jump ahead of Gonzaga in the rankings tomorrow. I wouldn't bet my house on it, but Creighton's and Iowa's wins really solidify our resume and Gonzaga's rather "meh" week with them barely winning at USF. The play at St. Mary's next week (first meeting this year between the two) and still have to go to YBU.

Iowa and Creighton both beaten pretty badly today. If the Aztecs don't lose their #1 NET ranking over tonight's Creighton and Iowa loses I'd be shocked. While not news today, the former Q1 win over the Utes is no longer safely in Q2 status and may be dropped all the way to Q3 by mid-February.

Utah State just went up 10 on UNLV with 4:52 left. That would give UNLV 5 conference losses.

The UNLV-USU game was close for a while, but the Aggies pulled away late for a dominating win. Queta was a beast in the paint, but he's clearly playing on compromised knees and hit the floor many times. Hopefully, he will stay healthy enough to let them finish the season strong, possibly earning a bubble or better berth in the NCAA's, but he'll have a hard time playing at his capability in back to back to back (potentially) days in the MWCT.

USC @ Arizona - the payola-scandal-with-no-real-repercussions game. If it were only possible for these two sleaze bags to both lose. Stanford @ Utah - would be a nice W for the Utes and help us a little BYU @ Portland - keep wining BYU Loyola Marymount @ Gonzaga - pray for a miracle UCLA @ Arizona State - just because I'd like to see the Bruins lose yet another game this season

Still a likely win for them, though.

A most signifegent game will be played next Tuesday when Utah St. visits Colorado St. That game will have an effect on seeding in the Mountain West Tournament.

Boise @ USU this Saturday is just as big. If USU runs this gauntlet - SDSU, UNLV, BSU & @csu - at 3-1 they will have definitely have played themselves into the 2-seed & an at-large berth.

YBU big over Portland. Utah over Stanford in OT...
Somewhat making up for Creighton and Iowa tanking last night.

I am worried about a potential match up with Utah St in the MWC tourney....it’s tough to beat any team 3 times in a season.
They will be hungry and have 2 prior games to figure the Aztecs out. But if Aztec shots keep falling, they are a tough out.
