I was at the Tarkenian Classic this past week. The Tarkenian Classic is one of the best High School tournaments in the country which included Mater Dei, Bishop Gorman, Sheldon, and many other excellent teams. I watched Lamont Butler's Riverside Poly team play against a very good Liberty Team from Vegas. Lamont is a pass first point guard who can also score when needed. He is always looking for his teammates first. He is also a very good defensive player and was assigned to Liberty's best player who is 6 feet 7 inches tall and has signed with Gonzaga. He did an excellent job on him, but had to switch off him after he got into foul trouble. Lamont had close to 20 points in the game that I saw. I think he was one of the best point guards at the event which included guards who signed with UCLA and Kentucky respectively. He will be at the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic after Christmas.
I then got to see Keith Dinwiddie and his Fairfax play against a very good Bishop Gorman from Vegas. Gorman got an early lead and had a relatively easy game against Fairfax. Dinwiddie was still was able to get his points (24), and looked very good. He is what you think of as a shooter. When he shoots, you think it is going in. He also seems to be a good passer and can also score go to the basketball. I didn't see him handle the ball that much during the game. His previous game, he hit 7 out of 8 3 pointers (I didn't see that game).
The Aztec coaches were at both games.

Watched Butler tonight at the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic. He was way stronger and stockier than I had anticipated. He looked good going to the rim, had great court vision and handled the ball pretty well. He didn't shoot very well though, from long range and even around the rim at times. But he looked and acted like a leader.

I was there too. Agree on the stronger & stockier comments. His passing and court vision is definitely his strongest trait, as advertised. I like him overall to be our next PG though. Seems like a really good kid with a high BB IQ and controls the game with great vision

But agree, his athleticism & shot left a lot to be desired. A good weight/exercise regimen will really help him once on campus, and a year learning behind Mal & Trey will help. Very similar in terms of passing skills to Trey. Have heard nothing but great things about Dinwiddie! Should compliment each others games very well.

Anyone go watch Butler last night vs Sheldon? I would like to hear what you thought of his play last night. How come Bagley didn't play for Sheldon is he hurt?
