I, like many of you, think Rocky isn't going to let Horton retire, but if he did, or if Horton decided to retire on his own, who would you like to see calling the plays? I do have a handful I'm watching, but here in no particular order here are my top-3 choices to be the 2019 SDSU Aztecs Offensive Coordinator:
Steve Addazio – recently fired Boston College head coach – Was an Offensive Line coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Florida Gators where he won 2 BCS National Championships as part of Urban Meyer’s staff. Addazio has exactly the skillset the Aztecs need, and although he was not a great head coach, his Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line coaching talent will likely price him above the $350k-$400k we can afford to pay an OC.
Frank Wilson – recently fired UTSA head coach – Was named top recruiter in all of college football in 2014 by NFL.com, and SEC Recruiter of the Year in 2015 by Scout.com. Was the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator for LSU where from 2011-2014 he recruited in more NFL drafted talent (29 players) than any school not named Alabama. Prior to his stint at LSU, Frank Wilson was the wide receivers coach at Tennessee under Lane Kiffen. Frank Wilson can coach offense, can mesh with Rocky’s run-first mentality, and absolutely can sign Pumphrey/Penny level talent every year.
Philip Montgomery – current Tulsa head coach – Is rumored to be fired by Tulsa soon but as of today still has a job. Prior to the head coaching gig at Tulsa he was the Offensive Coordinator for Baylor where he was a finalist for the Broyles Award (top assistant coach) after Baylor’s 9-0 start and a #3 national ranking. If you want an Offensive Coordinator who knows how to build an offense capable of gaudy numbers, both running and passing against ranked and P5 opposition, this is your guy.
Who is on your list and why do you hate my list?

Frank Wilson hasn't actually been an OC though? I'll take anyone over Horton at this point. I was thinking there has to be some up and comer at the FCS level that we could hire away and still afford.

I'd be interested in who you had in mind. They are much riskier as the hot shot talent usually gets pulled up straight to head coach. One coach I would love, love, love to see as the new Aztecs Offensive Coordinator is Bobby Hauck. He did amazing things with the Aztecs Special Teams when he was here, and his current salary at Montanta is $185k. SDSU could literally double his income, but I don't think he'd take it. I think running his own show is worth that much to him. It was a freak circumstance that allowed us to have him in red and black for the time we did. Don't mistake my concerns as negativity as I do think it is a good idea. I just couldn't think of anyone above the 3 I mentioned. If you've got names please do post them.

I don't have a specific guy in mind. I just know we won't be able to afford many of the established D-1 guys, so going the FCS route on a younger, unknown (cheaper) guy might be the ticket. I like your original list, if we can actually afford any of those guys. I don't think Hauck has ever been an OC though? I would like a guy that has been an OC before at least. Actually, I wouldn't mind getting the band back together and getting Al Borges to come back. I believe he got fired last year at UTSA and isn't coaching anywhere this year.

I have a hunch that Rocky may approach Ron Caragher for an OC promotion within his staff. The old UCLA coaching bonds are strong, he lured Bobby Hauck and Bob Toledo to the Mesa. Hell, he may also consider Al Borges, if he's available.
Oldie Out

Yeah, I don't see us getting an SEC coach, even a position coach.

Yeah, I don't see us getting an SEC coach, even a position coach. yeah, but he isn’t a position coach or coordinator, just a passing game coordinator... he turned down NFL position coach because he wanted to “orchestrate” an offense... Maybe he would take an OC spot for a couple years...

Maybe he would take an OC spot for a couple years... Joe Brady isn't on the table for us. He just signed a 3-year deal with LSU for $410k this year, $435k next year, and $460k in the final year with a sizable buyout. That alone is way above where we can go, but Joe Brady will likely see a LOT more. Even with the big buy out, he's on the Texas Longhorns' short list to become their next Offensive Coordinator. Joe Brady will be making $1.5 - $2 million maybe as soon as this coming year, and certainly within two years. www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/sports/lsu/article_77f1d468-156c-11ea-8f58-1be7801815ad.html
