I fire him right after the BYU game but get the administration working on all the firing and hiring paperwork this week so Monday, December 2nd you can have the job officially posted.
Some might argue waiting until after one of the signing periods or even the bowl game. The new coach needs to be able to recruit kids for his system. Rocky is 4-9 in bowl games and I don’t see us beating any team in the country that makes a bowl game with this offense and Rocky’s bowl philosophy.

While it would seem to be outside of Rocky's personality or behavior pattern, I would hope that he's actively looking for a replacement now. It's a competitive market, and the best candidates get hired quickly after the final Saturday of the regular season.

Jeff doesn't have any kids, he is 63 and needs to retire. His coaching has outlived its useful purpose.
Great guy, poor OC.

Getting a new OC in before the signing date can't hurt recruiting more than Horton's already hurting it.

It would be nice if he just announced his retirement and then Rocky would be off the hook, except to find a decent OC.

If he is truly a friend to Rocky, Horton should resign now and let Rocky's teams have a chance to win some future games.

On the tarmac before getting on the plane home. This! Wouldn’t be the first time this has happened at a school.

Do we have a list of who he's recruited over his last four years to see how they've panned out? That's not a fair criticism without evidence.

You can look at it a few ways, but it all points to the Offensive Coordinator/Assistant Head Coach:
1)The play was limited by not having the players to play better on offense. 2)The players did not perform up to expectations 3)Player did not execute plays correctly 4)Recruits didn't pan out 5)Players didn't develop over time 6)Play calling was not successful, due to players . . .
You get the picture, this all really seems to fall on the coaching staff. This is not a one year thing it's a fundamental issue that really needs to be addressed NOW. All the signs seem to show that this team is LACKING in all areas on offence and are trending in the wrong direction. They need to right the ship soon then later. This year is done and over with as far as the conference bowl is concerned. This University and coaching staff needs to make some serious decisions.
1)Do they want to be more competitive in football moving forward 2)Do they want to improve the quality of recruits that come to the mesa 3)Do they want a better team for the new stadium 4)Do they want more excitement at games
If so then they need to act now and improve this coaching staff for this up-coming recruiting season. This is going to be an important year for recruiting due to the fact that they will have a smaller recruiting class that will go along with a large senior and junior class next year. Recruiting takes over a year to get established and next years recruiting class is going to be large with many areas needing to be addressed.
This team can not have another season of limping along relying on the defenses and the offense scoring fewer and fewer points each game.
They need make some serious decisions NOW not next week, not next month, not after the season, not after spring ball, not after putting in a NEW SYSTEM, not with adding a few Grad. assistants, not with adding just a new JC Quarterback, not with just moving the coaches around to different areas,............................
Bring in a new offensive coordinator and then add a new Qb coach, Oline coach, RB coach NOW!

WHAT? Have you watched the games in the last couple years and seen the play of the QB? He is the person most responsible along with input from the QB coach (Morgan) on who is recruited for a position and has (should have) final say-so on who is recruited. Just look at the QB position for the last 4-5 years, starters and non starters. Case closed, he is not getting the job done!

I wouldn't be so sure that Jeff Horton is the "person most responsible" for offensive recruiting. That isn't necessarily how recruiting works at the college level. But if you're certain that coaches bear responsibility generally and not specifically, Rocky Long would be the person most responsible, Horton second. Ron Caragher is the recruiting coordinator, but has only been so since 2018. Horton has primary and secondary geographic areas of recruiting responsibility. He's also the running backs coach, so there's another reason to get rid of him (if you need another). goaztecs.com/sports/2018/7/13/sports-m-footbl-recuits-coaches-info-html.aspx

We are a run first team that can’t run the ball. The only issue with the running backs is that we stayed with Washington too long, and that is on coach Horton as both the OC and RB coach. The QB, RB’s, WR’s and TE’s were all good enough to win last night and kept us in the game.
So what’s left? The offensive line.
Fix the o-line, find a replacement for Agnew, and get a bit more creative in our offense - particularly the running game, and we’ll be very good next year.
The needed changes require a surgeon, not an axe murderer.
Go Aztecs!
