Tingler introduced as the manager of the Padres this morning. Interesting takes on analytics : Didn't want "information overload" to replace fundamentals and hard work. Came across humble, earnest and sincere in his expectations to win. Really carried himself well, I thought.
And the new hats are on point.

After the presser, Fowler said he expects the team in 2020 to be "significantly above .500". Fowler also commented that he felt ultimately, it was up to the GM to hire his own manager. Frankly, that puts Preller and Tingler on a very short leash, IMO.

It's up to Ron to open the wallet and build the staff around Tingler (Love the Dickerson hire as bench coach)....Long way to go.

The last 2 times in Fowler's presser that he mentioned a year, he referred to 2020 specifically. That is also an important distinction.

The fishing buddy is in and he had some good things to say, just like his predecessor. In fact you close your eyes and listen to the baseball rhetoric he sounds very very similar to Andy Green.

There is a guy very similar to you on Twitter. I had to educate him this morning because he was just babbling. He actually thought 14 year olds played in the Dominican. The manager is one piece of the puzzle. The roster is much more important.

Not a redeeming quality!

Not a redeeming quality! Stating facts is not arrogance. Blasting objectively stupid and false takes is silly. That's just the reality. Sorry if you don't like the Internet tone and sarcasm. I have said a billion times I'm not an expert. At the same time, it's easy to spot false logic and outright lies.

If you want to be critical of the process, fine. Critical of the hire....okay, even if there is no reason because Tingler hasn't managed a game yet. Come at it though with facts, not hyperbole and baseless comparisons. That's all I'll say.

Preller didn’t do that. His keen baseball insight deduced that his farm prospects were more than up to the challenge, and the results speak for themselves. 70-92, last place, fired manager, owner ready to clean house. Oh that’s right, they weren’t really trying to win last year, all of the best efforts come this year. Sign or trade for 2 frontline SP or it will be another sub .500 season.

Because having your best offensive player miss 84 games and your biggest free agent signing in history underperform mean nothing, obviously. Any idea why Machado underperformed? Yes. Hit .219 at Petco, with a ridiculously low .230 BABIP. His opposite field approach resulted in a lot of deep fly balls to right that became outs because the ball just didn't carry a ton that way, especially at night. His road splits were phenomenal : .289/.369/.513. I know Aztecmusician thinks starting pitching is the major issue, but the numbers don't back it up. In the second half of last season, the Padres as a team slashed .233/.311/.384. They were 28th in baserunning, 28th in team offensive WAR. Pitching ranked 9th in terms of FIP (ahead of the Nationals) and 11th in WAR over that time period. On the pitching side, there is a major gap between starting pitching ERA and FIP, 0.60. That means there is a disconnect in the defense, the alignment and the execution. That was the 2nd largest gap in baseball. Tingler's been lauded for his baserunning and outfield defense work, which were two major issues for the Padres last year.

Another note on Manny : His strikeout rate went up considerably year over year. Nothing new for the Padres of course, but worth nothing. I expect a bounceback next year.

That's why you hire a manager with a fundamentals emphasis. We were subpar defensivsly and on the bases, which cost the team wins. I will be disappointed if we bring in more than one pitcher. Need to really save a slot for Gore/Patiño.
